May 12-18 is food allergy awareness week and I have a child with FPIES. You can find out more about how my family deals with this rare condition at Cradle Rocking Mama - FPIES Eyes.
FPIES is an atypical, non-IgE mediated allergy that affects the intestinal system. Primarily found in children, this disease means that any food the child consumes could cause them profuse vomiting and diarrhea, lethargy and potentially send them into shock. Quite often a child who has an FPIES reaction requires an emergency room visit and/or hospitalization.
The FPIES Foundation gives this description for FPIES:
A rare diagnosis, FPIES is a type of food allergy affecting the gastrointestinal tract. It is typically diagnosed in infants and young children. Classic symptoms of FPIES include profound vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. These symptoms can lead to severe lethargy, change in body temperature and blood pressure, and may require emergent medical attention. Unlike typical food allergies, symptoms may not be immediate and do not show up on standard allergy tests; furthermore, the negative allergy evaluation may delay the diagnosis and take the focus off the causative food. Nonetheless, FPIES can present with severe symptoms following ingestion of a reactionary food.
The goal of The FPIES Foundation (fpiesfoundation.org) is to provide support and encouragement, as well as the tools for managing FPIES on a day-to-day basis. Foundation Chair Joy Meyer says with the recent designation as a non-profit, The FPIES Foundation is truly a "home" families can trust. "We aspire to help families feel welcomed, to know that they have a place where they can get help, support, and a sense of community," says Meyer.

Seen waiting time before running down to Gozo Ferry Terminal is one of several tour buses on the small island. Gozo has over 10 tour buses allocated to it, which given it's a small island could be considered a lot. However, these are owned by two different companies; Gozo Joy Rides (operating in the red livery above, City Sightseeing Gozo) and Lepeirks Travel (gozo sightseeing, which is operated on behalf of Supreme Travel). Competition like this helps bring in money for the country, and gives tourists a good view of the island.
