Taken at Dick's Towing on Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois while perched on top of one of the buildings fourists to see some of cars from the route's past.
While it looks to be in great shape, a closer look will reviel some rust and other issues. Regardless, my hope is that it will be restored to it's former glory and then tour Route 66 with a California or Bust attitude.
Old Pullman passenger cars are used today in Elkins, West Virginia to transport tourists up into the high country in the Monongahela Forest.

Exhibition | 200 Years Journey Through Thai Modern Art History
Passion Leads to Collection

Our journey with art began with simplicity, Initially, we both viewed art marely as beautiful things used for decoration. The closest we got to art was when we traveled to different places and had the opportunity to visit museums and galeries like regular fourists. The idea of collecting crt feit distant to us, something associated with cities, nations, and the wealthy who had more resources than they could ever use - not people like us.
Then, in 2013, our paths collided with the art world when a blank wall space appeared in our newly renovated condo. With the thought of having enly one wall, we decided to try to find a painting by a renowned Thai crtist we knew and hang it there; just one piece would suffice. We could hardly recall any names with our imited knowledge of our nation's art, especially Thai arfists. Strangely, we could easily list foreign artists like Picasso. Monet. and Van Gogh.
The only Thai artists we could vaguely remember were Thawan Duchanee and Chalechai Kositpipat, solely because we had seen them on TV. If we recall the obstacles in finding a painting we liked for our home - it could have been a movie plot. Ultimately, we acquired Thawan Duchonee's elephant painting to hang on that troublesome wall.
From that somewhat shaky start, our journey in the art world gradually became smoother, thanks to the generosity of knowledgeable individuals who shared Information and the countless books we read. Once we gained conidence, we began to meet artists, support galleries, bid at cuctions, request pieces from collectors, and even search for works by Thai artists that had been lost or hidden abroad. Our art collection grew exponentialy, from one piece te two. four, eight, and beyond, far exceeding our wall space.
After a while, we started questicning our motives: Wry were we colecting, and what was the goal of this arduous effort to amass so many artworks? it could not have been for investment purposes, as we had no intention of selling these pieces, no matter how valuable they became. Moreover, the idea of building an inheritance for children or grandchildren did not apply, as we had both decided not to have descendants. Upon reflection, our reason for co ecting art stemmed from sheer passion.
However, simply continuing to accumulate art aimlessly, only for us to eventucily pass away and leave these cherished works to scatter among those who may or may not appreciate them, seemed like a sad prospect.
So, we consulted each other and realized that a substantial collection must have a unitying theme. By cringing tegether diverse artworks in a coherent monner with a clear narictive, even the smallest or most ordinory pieces become Integral components of the colection, essential and irreplaceable.
Locking back to when we started collecting our first artwork, the main obstacle was the limited inforation available about influential Thai artists in the nation's art histery. Even more chalenging was that many significant artists had no actual examples of their work displayed anywhere - the closest representations were small, blurry, black-and-white photographs printed in old, dusty books on library shelves.
Thus, cur collection focused on piecing together the puzzle of Thalland's modern ort history, creating a comprehensive narrative in the form of a public museum. Starting from the down of mcder Thai art around 200 years ago, when Khrua In Khong began painting murals infused with Wester influences, we progressed through the era when Thai monarchs commissioned Wester artists to create palatic decorations, the foundational perica led by Professor Silpa Bhirasri, and up to the present day, where Thai artists have become independent, with multiple styles influencing various disciplines.
We have always belleved that artworks that remain alive offer opportunities fer people to experience them. Art differs from other luxuries like fine cuisine. wine,fashic. or high-performance vehicles, which con only be enjoyed by their owners and diminish or deteriorate with consumption and appreciation. On the contrary, art gains more vitality when more people engage with it, understand it, and critique it - this is akin to breathing life into the work and honoring the spirit of the artist who created it, allowing it to endure for a long time.
We sincerely hope that this collection, which tells the story of Thalland's proud modern art history through perseverance, chance, fate, or forces beyond our understanding, will enable us, as ordinary individuals, to ocquire nationolly significant works we never imagined seeing. We aiso hope it will benefit and inspire others, whether in small or significant ways.
Moreover, we hope this collection wil continue to exist in some form, outliving us. As the saying goes. "Ars longa, vita brevis". May it serve as a monument to our love for Thai art and for each other from the depths of our hearts.
