I thought it might be nice to show you the finished product. The forms were removed the very next day.
The sequence was: footings were poured and leveled and rebar set vertically to tie in the walls. That was done a week or so prior. Then the metal forms went up with rebar between them. The concrete was then poured. After 12 hours the forms could be removed. So this is the result the very next day. This is the basement and garage. A two story house will be built on top of these walls. This is the back view.
This house was undermined by a flood a handful of years ago. Slowly the house collapsed with its belongings still inside. Located in rural Brown County, Ohio a few miles north of the Ohio River.

Halberstadt is a town in Saxony-Anhalt with a population of just under 40,000 in the northern Harz foreland. It is known for its medieval cathedral and canned sausages. From 804 to 1648, the town was the seat of a bishop. In the 18th century, one tenth of the town's inhabitants were Jewish. Because of the large number of half-timbered buildings, the town was known as the "Rothenburg of the North". More than 80 % of the town centre was destroyed by an air raid on 8 April 1945. From 1949 to 1989, the largely destroyed inner city was partly rebuilt in a "socialist architectural style"; the remaining half-timbered houses in the old town were planned to fall into disrepair and 600 of them were extensively demolished. At the end of the GDR in 1989, only small parts of the old town with 447 houses still existed. After 1990, the remaining parts of the old town were restored and, from 1995 onwards, a modern town centre was built on the foundation walls and the scale of the historic town centre. The new town centre in the area of the market squares was completed in 1998 with the construction of the new Town Hall.

Pink-headed knotweed ( Persicaria capitate grows along the foundation and on the grout of the Casa do Cantoneiro which sits along the road to the Caldera of Faial on the island of Faial in the Azores. The flower, originally introduced to the Azores as an ornamental plant, is native to the Himalayas. It escaped cultivation and is now considered an invasive plant.
The building, originally built to house road maintenance workers (cantoneiros), has been repurposed as an interpretation center for the Caldera within Faial Nature Park (Parque Natural do Faial).

"Street Scenes of Sai Ying Pun" is a community arts project led by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and local photographer and artist Tse Ming-chong.
In recent years, the historical district of Sai Ying Pun has undergone huge changes. To help document these changes and create an archive of memories for the community, over thirty young people worked with the artist to create photo collages combining over 450 pieces of monochrome photos. The artwork depicts the unique and vibrant character of the neighbourhood and records the traditional shops, the heritage buildings and the daily lives of the local residents.

Marine life, or sea life or ocean life, is the plants, animals and other organisms that live in the salt water of the sea or ocean, or the brackish water of coastal estuaries. At a fundamental level, marine life affects the nature of the planet. Marine organisms produce oxygen and sequester carbon. Shorelines are in part shaped and protected by marine life, and some marine organisms even help create new land. The term marine comes from the Latin mare, meaning sea or ocean. Most life forms evolved initially in marine habitats. By volume, oceans provide about 90 percent of the living space on the planet. The earliest vertebrates appeared in the form of fish, which live exclusively in water. Some of these evolved into amphibians which spend portions of their lives in water and portions on land. Other fish evolved into land mammals and subsequently returned to the ocean as seals, dolphins or whales. Plant forms such as kelp and algae grow in the water and are the basis for some underwater ecosystems. Plankton forms the general foundation of the ocean food chain, particularly the phytoplankton which are key primary producers. Marine invertebrates exhibit a wide range of modifications to survive in poorly oxygenated waters, including breathing tubes as in mollusc siphons. Fish have gills instead of lungs, although some species of fish, such as the lungfish, have both. Marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales, otters, and seals need to surface periodically to breathe air. There are over 200,000 documented marine species with perhaps two million marine species yet to be documented. Marine species range in size from the microscopic, including phytoplankton which can be as small as 0.02 micrometres, to huge cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises), including the blue whale – the largest known animal reaching 33 metres in length. Marine microorganisms, including protists, bacteria and viruses, constitute about 70% of the total marine biomass. 24401
The set of Asimov's "Foundation" trilogy is my dad's...the tea set is my mom's from their wedding...and the unique retro teapot is something I picked up at a thrift store in Pittsburgh but have since passed on to a friend who appreciates vintage pieces even more than I do.
This is also appropriate because my dad got me into sci-fi but my mom got me into tea, and all three subjects were made circa the 60's and 70's.

Downs Road Boatyard, Blackwater River, Maldon. The Foundation provides training and apprenticeships to keep heritage boatbuilding craft skills alive: such as rigging, metalworking, engineering and woodworking. Currently the apprentices are involved in the restoration of the 'Torbay Lass' built in 1923 and one of the last Brixham Trawlers to be built. The rebuild of Torbay Lass is managed by a lead shipwright with 6 young people getting hands on experience of rebuilding a 102-year-old wooden sailing vessel. Taken with a Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1.
Foundation repair is a traumatic experience. Homes in the Houston (Texas) suburbs are built on concrete slabs over a clay-rich soil that expands and contracts with the seasons. Given enough years, foundation cracks are common. Using the weight of the house, cylindrical concrete piers are driven into the soil until refusal, about 16 feet (5 meters) down in 14 locations around the affected sides of the house in our case. Then the home is jacked back into level. Doors are closing properly again. Not sure our ornamental shrubbery will survive the required transplantation, but if not we'll be planting Texas natives that attract butterflies. Angel, shown here, was an industrious and pleasant worker. Thanks Angel.
