A scallop shell from Calvert Cliffs, a wonderful (but dangerous) source of Miocene fossils. Wonderful because there are about 600 different kinds of fossils there. Dangerous because the cliff is tall and crumbling. The powers-that-be try to keep people away from the cliffs because they want to keep tourists alive - the silly tourists keep collecting treasures like this because they are beautiful!

This one was collected before current restrictions on access and collecting.

Fossil Creek is a river resulting from springs that put out 20000 gallons of water per minute in the Coconino National Forest near Strawberry. After a power plant and dam were removed from the river, it was designated a National Wild and Scenic River. A beautiful and very popular spot and not what you expect to see in Arizona

With a population of about 450 people, Fossil is one of many isolated small towns dotting the eastern 3/4th of the State of Oregon. It is the county seat of very sparsely populated Wheeler County in north central Oregon. It sits at the junction of Oregon State Routes 19 (north-southeast) and 218 (coming in from the southwest). It is named after the fossils the first postmaster found on his ranch north of the current site of the town in 1876 when he established the first post office at his ranch. In 1881 it was decided to move the post office to the present site of Fossil and the town's first store was built.

A fossil Crinoid (Gissocrinus gonidactylus ?) from Wren's nest, Dudley, England.

Found this near the bank of Chickamauga Lake in Chattanooga, TN USA. From what I have researched it's from the Silurian or Devonian period when this area was a shallow sea.

It can be difficult to take a picture in a darkened room. Especially a macro. Not enough ambient light and the flash just washes it out completely. In this case, though, I used the LED light mounted on my helmet to provide the necessary light. And it's a fairly white light so you can see the tooth's natural blue color.

25th March 2007 - I thought that I would take a photo of my watch. I'm so proud of this watch, like it's quite simple, and streamlined, but I think that's why I love it so much. I mean sure it's plain, but then with everything being so flash these days, a little be of minimalism goes a long way.

I bought this watch for my birthday. It's kind of bittersweet to be honest. I mean it's not the best feeling to buy yourself a present for your own birthday, but with the majority of people in my life forgot about the day (only one person remembered - bless their soul), then I suppose I made it up for myself.

And now I'm doing it in style! Well that's what I think at least. I think the next thing I'll get myself will be a ring so I can wear on my thumb. For some reason that has always appealed to me.

"dem bones, dem bones... dem, dry prehistoric bones!"

Not certain of the age of this fossil and no idea where it came from. Barb found it and gave it to me as a gift many years ago.
