Edificato nel 1758 proprio sulla vetta del Monte Diamante a circa 670 m di quota, in posizione dominante sulla Val Polcevera e la Val Bisagno, è il più settentrionale dei forti che circondano Genova e si trova nel territorio comunale di San’Olcese.
Nel corso degli anni fu teatro di diversi avvenimenti bellici. Il 30 aprile 1800 , proprio al Diamante venne ferito Ugo Foscolo durante l’assedio delle truppe austriache. I Francesi con i quali Foscolo combatteva col grado di capitano, rifiutarono la resa e pochi giorni dopo spezzarono l’assedio contrattaccando da Forte Sperone e riconquistando i Due Fratelli che erano caduti in mano austriaca.
