Week 2 in 52 Weeks for Dogs and I'm still very much struggling to get back to normal, consequently it's another 'make do' shot which I managed to take on the wrong settings. I'm just too tired to set it up again so it will have to do.

Ambrotip de format 13x18cm, realitzat amb una càmera Konrad G. Seitz fabricada cap al 1895; objectiu petzval Lerebours et Secretan, fabricat a Paris cap al 1848!!; col·lodió Franalog Old Workhorse, revelat amb revelador "estiu" amb sucre.
Aquests retrats son les primeres proves de fer-ne in situ, revelant amb la cambra fosca portatil CF-2t.
Les plaques de col·lodió es realitzen al moment, cobrint una placa de vidre o planxa metal·lica negra amb col·lodió i sals de iode i/o brom, sensibilitzat amb nitrat de plata. Aleshores s'ha de fer la fotografia i revelar-la en uns 5 minuts, abans no s'assequi la emulsió. És un dels processos fotogràfics més antics del món, inventat el 1851, i que dominà fins el 1880. Però ara ha resorgit, ja que les imatges, molt treballades, que dona són úniques, màgiques i i irrepetibles.

This is a 13x18cm clear glass ambrotype, made with a Konrad G. Seitz tailboard camera, made in Nuremberg c.1895; Lerebours et Secretan petzval lens, made in Paris c.1848! Old Workhorse collodion; "summer" sugar developer.
These portraits are the first trials of wet plate portraits done "in the field" with my DIY dark box CF-2t.
The collodion plates are made covering a glass plate or black metal plate with collodion and salts of iodine and / or bromine, sensitized with silver nitrate. Then you have to take the photo and reveal it in about 5 minutes, before the emulsion dries. It is one of the oldest photographic processes in the World, invented in 1851, and which dominated photography until 1880. But now it has resurfaced, as the images, very elaborate to create, that it gives are unique, razor sharp, magical and unrepeatable.

Shot handheld, Arax-modified Kiev 60 6x6 medium format camera, Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm F4, exposure guessed at 1/250s f11, Kodak Ektar 100 print film .
Self developed to N in Tetenal C-41 kit.
Scanned to an equivalent 5000 dpi with a custom made SLR macro setup, then resized to about 2800 dpi.
Manually inverted in Photoshop.

I really like Kodak Ektar 100 print film, it rivals slide film in terms of sharpness and low grain, while retaining nice saturation and extremely wide exposure latitude.
It's also the easier print film to invert manually in post process.
Very light postprocessing.

The sun had set but I was hoping to make use of the luminosity available immediately after. Exposed onto Velvia with no filtration, the initial exposure of two minutes was doubled to allow for reciprocity failure and the doubled again as light levels fell away during the exposure.

Ferrotip de format 13x18cm, realitzat amb una càmera Konrad G. Seitz fabricada cap al 1895; objectiu petzval Lerebours et Secretan, fabricat a Paris cap al 1848!!; col·lodió Quinn's Quick Clear de fabricació casolana.
Les plaques de col·lodió es realitzen al moment, cobrint una placa de vidre o planxa metal·lica negra amb col·lodió i sals de iode i/o brom, sensibilitzat amb nitrat de plata. Aleshores s'ha de fer la fotografia i revelar-la en uns 5 minuts, abans no s'assequi la emulsió. És un dels processos fotogràfics més antics del món, inventat el 1851, i que dominà fins el 1880. Però ara ha resorgit, ja que les imatges, molt treballades, que dona són úniques, màgiques i i irrepetibles.

This is a 13x18cm tintype, made with a Konrad G. Seitz tailboard camera, made in Nuremberg c.1895; Lerebours et Secretan petzval lens, made in Paris c.1848! Quinn's Quick Clear collodion, made by me.
The collodion plates are made covering a glass plate or black metal plate with collodion and salts of iodine and / or bromine, sensitized with silver nitrate. Then you have to take the photo and reveal it in about 5 minutes, before the emulsion dries. It is one of the oldest photographic processes in the World, invented in 1851, and which dominated photography until 1880. But now it has resurfaced, as the images, very elaborate to create, that it gives are unique, razor sharp, magical and unrepeatable.
