Antisana

View form the Carfax Tower

Carfax is the junction of St Aldate's (south), Cornmarket Street (north), Queen Street (west) and the High Street (east) in Oxford, England. It is considered to be the center of the city. The name "Carfax" derives from the Latin quadrifurcus via the French carrefour, both of which mean "crossroads". The Carfax Tower, also known as St. Martin's Tower (it is the remaining part of what was the City Church of St. Martin of Tours) is a prominent landmark and provides a look-out over the town.

NGC 281 forms part of an HII (ionized Hydrogen) region in the constellation of Cassiopeia.

Also known as The Pacman Nebula, due to its resemblance to the videogame character, (on his side in this image!) lies at a distance of around 9500 light years from Earth.

A feature of this nebulae are Bok Globules. These are isolated small, dark nebulae looking like "little" clumps and are visible in the image.

This image represents only 60mins worth of exposure using a Baader Ha filter. My session was cut drastically short, I wanted to image more, including OIII data, but the ingress of thick cloud put a stop to that idea - what's new! Have to say this was not my primary target but I had considerable guiding issues earlier which wasted a lot of time and was aware of the short window of clear sky. So it was a case of the Pacman Nebula so the night wouldn't be a total waste!

This same cloud prevented me from trying to photograph the spectacular Aurora display which was also taking place this night.

Quite pleased with what I did get as conditions were initially good - pity it didn't continue!

Imaged with my Esprit 120ED with focal reducer. I used my ZWO 1600MMC camera and Baader Ha filter.

When it was time to setup for an evening shot, the sun was teasing me with light. Although present and to my left, it was timidly hiding behind a low cloud. It seemed to mock me with its faint glow, provoking a shot, then just as quickly hiding, as if playing some game.

However, I knew the chance for side lighting would come because the clouds had vacated the horizon. I composed the shot with the use of tiny puddles in the mud. They appear disproportionate to the scene with the lens inches away. But lead the viewer in. Then for a moment the canceled becomes the revealed, and the side lighting changes the scene, helping shapes take form.

Jvari Monastery is one of the most iconic in Georgia. This ancient temple dates back to the 6th century AD. It was built at the dawn of the adoption and spread of Christianity in Georgia. The name of the church is translated from Georgian as “the cross” and has its own history. According to the legend, the cross of St. Nino, one of the most revered saints who converted Georgia to Christianity, is kept here. After some time, a temple was built on the site of the holy cross, which later became the basis of the present Jvari.

The Jvari temple is located nearby the ancient capital of Georgia, Mtskheta, on the top of a high mountain, from where picturesque views of the neighborhood open, at the intersection of stormy waters of the Aragvi and Kura rivers. The temple attracts thousands of tourists because of its architecture, location and historical value. Exterior and interior decorations of the temple are made in simple, and we can say quite austere forms. Unlike most Orthodox churches, Jvari is beautiful with its simplicity, rigor and clarity of lines. According to the structure, the temple is classified as serial, or tetraconch. Inside the temple right in the center under the dome on a stone pedestal, stands the impressive wooden cross, decorated with inscriptions and carvings. The exterior facades of the temple are decorated with simple, and at the same time expressive bas-reliefs.

To the top of the mountain where the temple stands, lead two ways: a new asphalt road for cars, and a path through which people used to climb up to the sanctuary from time immemorial. The trail begins at the highway. Climbing up along it until about the middle, you can come across a spring with holy water which is believed to appear thanks to the prayers of St. Nino. This water is considered to be curative and miraculous. The temple of Jvari went through a long and difficult journey of one and a half thousand year’s length along with the Georgian people, experienced hardships and difficulties, becoming a symbol of faith for Georgia.

Ravens and crows together form the genus Corvus in the corvid family (Corvidae). The larger representatives are referred to as "ravens", the smaller ones as "crows". However, this is not a taxonomic classification. The genus includes 42 species, which are distributed almost worldwide and are missing only in South America. In Europe, the common raven, the carrion crow (carrion crow and hooded crow) and the rook occur. As a naturalized neozoon, the crow has also been breeding in the Netherlands since the late 1990s.

Ravens and crows are among the largest species within the order of passerines: the two largest representatives of the genus are the common raven (Corvus crassirostris) and the common raven (Corvus corax), each of which has a body length of between 60 and 70 cm and a body weight of up to Can reach 1.5 kg and are therefore the largest passerine birds ever.

Orpheus takes the form of an inverted pyramid, sunk into the earth and open to the elements. It is at once a negative space and a sculptural form. Its serene lines seem to invite you to descend into its depths and enjoy the tranquillity.

With rejuvenation of the garden gathering steam, the current Duke was passionate about adding a 21st century edge. He wanted a creative endeavour that would compliment and enhance the triumphant landscapes of his ancestors. So the Duke commissioned Kim Wilkie to design a striking new landform, Orpheus. It is named after the famed musician of Greek mythology who, when his wife Eurydice died, went down into the underworld to try and reclaim her. His music was so beautiful that Hades relented and allowed Eurydice to return to the world of the living.

The St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel forms the frontispiece of St Pancras railway station in St Pancras, London. The station is one of the main rail termini in London and the final stop for international trains departing to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and other destinations in mainland Europe. It opened in 2011, and occupies much of the former Midland Grand Hotel designed by George Gilbert Scott which opened in 1873 and closed in 1935. The hotel is managed by Marriot International.

The building as a whole including the apartments is known as St Pancras Chambers and between 1935 and the 1980s was used as railway offices. The upper levels of the original building were redeveloped between 2005 and 2011 as apartments by the Manhattan Loft Corporation Its clock tower stands at 76 m (249 ft) tall, with more than half its height usable.

The hotel is located in the vicinity of Euston, King's Cross and St Pancras railway stations.
