DID YOU KNOW? Feathers are fed to the grebe chicks almost immediately after hatching. In fact, feathers are very often the first item eaten by newly hatched chicks of many grebe species. So these grebes evolved to use their feathers as a way to slow down digestion. The feathers form dense balls in the digestive tract and appear to slow the passage of food long enough that the food can be safely liquified. The bird then regurgitates the tough bits within a ball of feathers.

Bodman, Lake Constance, Germany on a cold day.
The picture shows one of the locations that I am drawn to several times a year, especially in the early and late seasons. I especially like it when there are no boats here and the whole area is completely deserted. In winter on Lake Constance, you never know for sure whether it was another pandemic that finally allowed nature to rest, or whether a zombie apocalypse has taken place and we are, of course, the last to find out. Personally, I always discover the beauty of slowness here, without sailing boats, surfboards and tourists. The latter jump around here like they've been bitten by a monkey. Which raises the question again of what was actually going on here... ;)
Was erneut die Frage aufwirft, was hier eigentlich los war…;)

AMSTERDAM LIGHT FESTIVAL - The form and content of Janet Echelman’s luminous 1.26 sculpture, that suspends over the Amstel river in Amsterdam, has been drawn from the study of earth’s interconnected systems. Echelman used laboratory research from NASA and NOAA, which documented the effects of the 2010 earthquake in Chile — the historic shock resulted in the shortening of the earth’s day by 1.26-microseconds, which became the influence for the installation’s namesake.
The colorful volumetric piece takes the shape of a Tsunami canyoning across the ocean. In her studio, she generated a three-dimensional model of the tsunami that resulted from chile’s earthquake, then used software to create an outline of the rendering’s highest amplitude area, realizing the silhouette as a sculptural form. the material underscores connectivity — Echelman’s work utilizes spectra, a material that is 15 times stronger than steel by weight. the knotted mesh can withstand high winds, but is engineered specifically to imitate the intricacy of handmade lace.
Oscar Wilde
The forms of the landscape on this ridge were either beautiful or bizarre.
It was strange to peer at the sky through the small opening on the left. From certain angles I could see distant landmarks through the opening.
The mangled shrub remnant on the right couldn't have been any more fitting for the place. It had just that certain feeling of character and history to it.

Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve (Quebec, Canada)
The Mingan Archipelago tells a fascinating geological story. The sedimentary rock formations date back almost 500 million years to a time when a warm, shallow tropical sea covered that region. Over tens of millions of years, a steady deposit of fine marine sediments and animal shells accumulated to form a blanket nearly two miles (!) thick that gradually turned to rock under its own weight.

The sedimentary rocks formed in the Upper Cretaceous that occur in the region of Torotoro, Bolivia, belong to the El Molino Formation, which can be divided into three members due to their distinct lithologic characteristics. The lower member consists of carbonate rocks, the intermediate member by siliciclastic and mixed rocks, and the upper, by carbonate rocks. These association of rocks occur as the upper strata of the Torotoro Syncline, a 45 km long and 9.5 km wide feature well preserved in the dynamic of Andean tectonic.

Eye candy flavors include lines, forms, colors, patterns, repetition, contrast, textures, and angles. I tried to include them all in this fun, grab shot outside of our favorite wine store. And for a change of pace it was shot as a JPEG. I could say it reminds me of a chorus line but that could get me locked up. : ))

Blurred, but still my best (most complete) shot of Barbara Hepworth' sculpture (plaster, 1958). Seen in the Barbara Hepworth Museum in St. Ives, Cornwall. When I say "complete" I mean to be as close as possible to the sculptor's ability to let the sea speak through her. The weather and light that day were very poor and I also was not well enough to keep the camera still. Yet, the formidable power of the sculpture will hopefully get through.
