Fork Run in the Allegheny National Forest in Forest County PA. Taken while hiking upstream and checking hemlock trees for hemlock woolly adelgid, an insect that has killed much of the hemlock population in the Appalachian Region. It has been confirmed in the ANF and Allegany State Park in New York.

The fork-tailed is an attractive and typical sought-after species in my area. Its undulating flight, with that long tail, is truly an spectacle. Sometimes they congregate in pretty astounding numbers filling entire fields.

I fancied a wee change in the Scot fork decal that we've been using. I thought it would be nice to have the Lion Rampant in the red and yellow rather than a yellow lion on blue. And also changed the reversed French flag with the thistle on top to an Italian flag for a bit of a Continental feel. Then put the world champion bands at the bottom. They came back up the other day from Lloyds Cycles and look great . . . I think. They'll be on my next project.
I have this fork that i built a while back for a bike that never came to be! So now it wants a home dearly. It's tired of being on a shelf. It has a rake of 35mm and no brake hole. It is 1" and threadless. Very light and awesome. $200 takes it away. (forks are normally $400)
Three knobs plus an air valve on the top of this fork. Mountain bikers tend to take for granted how much they know about the complicated workings of these things. This particular one was simplified in its most recent revision – and that's saying something!

Chappel Fork in McKean County PA. I do lots of hiking up watersheds in the Allegheny National Forest to look for the hemlock woolly adelgid. I haven't seen it this year in the ANF. The cold winter took an estimated 95% mortality rate on the HWA in the ANF region. This is good news... at least for this year
Gerry and Nathan at C & G Finishes did a beautiful job painting my frame. It's flamboyant red stove enamel with extra lacquer. It looks really deep and shiny in real life and it's amazing in the sunshine.
51mm rake to give me 57mm of trail with a 72 degree head tube.
I went through four iterations of the fork tip grapper. I had to add a strip of steel on both sides to reinforce the swiss cheese wood behind it from previous attemps. The outboard wood pieces makes it easy to drop into my vice before tightening. I'll probably switch the triangular 8020 brackets to another version, the fork blade on the opposite side hits it while bending.
