I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this wonderful plant on my way to Hail, in the north of Saudi Arabia.

The world is full of new things. This gives me a great deal of pleasure.

Things like this strengthen my belief in the Creator who created all these wonderful things. Praised be Allah, the One and Only.

(10) He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs.

(11) Such is the Creation of Allah: now show Me what is there that others besides Him have created: nay, but the Transgressors are in manifest error. [Qur'an 31: 10-11]

A text in english:

Fork-tailed Flycatcher in Brasília, Brazil.

The world of aves contains an order called passeriformes, the largest of the 34 existing orders. The order has an unusual family known as the Tyrannidae and within that family, is a species called Muscivora Tyrannus or Tyrannus savana, most cornmonly referred to as the Fork-tailed Flycatcher. The Forked-tail Flycatcher has a black cap with a yellow crown spot. Its underparts are white and its tail is black, forked and twice the length of its body.

Its nest is an elaborate hanging basket or cup preferably where colonial wasps or ants are nesting, presumably because of the protection from predators afforded by bites or stings of these neighbours. They lay one egg daily until the clutch is complete. The eggs are a white cream to buff with brown spots.

Bubba's new girlfriend gave him a Latin to English dictionary and he's convinced it's the key to a greater understanding of birdwatching. For instance, I would have guessed the Latin name Muscivora Tyrannus would have to do with its incredibly long forked tail or this varasious insectivorous birds appetite for flies but instead it's a description of its personality. Bubba looked it up and interpreted it as the tyrant intruder. A tyrant is defined as a cruel oppressive ruler or master.

The Tyrant Flycatchers all defend exclusive territories and are highly aggressive towards intruders, even intruders like hawks that may be three times their size.

Fork experimentation

The lower South Fork is seen through the afternoon haze. Castle Rock sits near the South Fork of the Shoshone River southwest of Cody Wyoming. Castle Rock is an erosional remnant of volcanic dikes that intruded into the sedimentary country rock. Explorer, mountain man and trapper, John Colter, passed this landmark in 1807 while exploring the wilderness that was to become northern Wyoming. He is believed to be the first European-American to visit this feature. The volcanic dike, as well as the nearby stacked lava flows, flow breccias and debris flows that makeup the mountains behind Castle Rock are part of the Absaroka Volcanics Supergroup. This group of igneous rocks are the remnant of a volcanic field that was active in the Eocene between 53 and 43 million years ago.

The numerical progression leads from 2009 to 12349 to ... Fork! Cobwebs start to form.

We stopped here on a little rock outcrop to eat lunch before the last half mile down to the S Fork trail and the final 3 miles out to the car and a shower. Our spirits were high and I was looking forward to the aspen groves and willow flats where we might encounter a moose (it didn't happen). Instead, the clouds piled up and by the time we reached that distant clearing we had our last serious thunder storm. Totally exposed in an open meadow we had to ditch our packs again and find refuge in the brush to wait it out. We actually had pea sized hail. It passed fairly quickly and then we began to meet up with happy Sunday day hikers along the way. It was good times and big smiles from all!

In May of 1861, the Little Fork Rangers from Culpeper County, Virginia mobilized into Company D of the 4th Virginia Calvary. Also known as the Black Horse Calvary, their primary objective was to guard and maintain the supply lines from the Rappahannock River.

The Black Horse Calvary still rides today, participating in Civil War reenactments in Virginia and Pennsylvania.

This is my third cutlery related photo this year, what is this thing I have about forks!

Using the polarizer to show all the stress lines in some clear plastic forks. I can't help but feel that if I turned the camera on myself at the moment I might look very colourful like this too!

My very quick go at a classic macro image of forks....

Very simple setup on the living room table, some lighting, and paper, and of course some shiney forks etc.

Might try this again when I have more time to get a better reflection.
