The primary reason I wanted to drive to the Southside yesterday was to document the two closing Forever 21 stores, as the window to do so is shrinking now that they're a month into liquidation. I started out at the Lynnhaven Mall store since it was the further of the two. When I entered the store through their mall entrance like you see in this photo, I thought that the extent of the salesfloor was just this vertical rectangle, but once I ventured further, I realized that the salesfloor branches out on both sides, forming a capital T shape (the "vertical" part consists of the old Spencer's/American Eagle, while the "horizontal" part is where the UA six-screen theater was). This end of the store is mostly women's apparel, with accessories to the back right. The register area is to the left of the exterior entrance, and behind it is the location of more women's apparel, denim, and the fitting rooms. And in the opposite pocket of space is where shoes, plus-size jeans, men's apparel, and lingerie are. Honestly, I felt like the departments of this store weren't clearly defined, because it seemed like women's apparel dominated in all areas of it; I get that they're the store's target demographic, but it just disoriented me a little. And aesthetically, the store looks almost the same as Newport News, with flood lighting, big white floor tiles with black stripes, and a wide variety of fixtures.
