We've had unseasonably warm October weather so far where I live, which seems to have decreased the amount of autumn color that we're seeing compared to normal. But this little vine with its red leaves is an exception, and it's clearly a sign of the season.
Our Daily Challenge: "A Sign Of"
After some winter pictures, I don't put a winter picture now, a picture before real winter has come ...
The Anlier Forest is one of the largest forest massifs in the Belgian Ardennes. The forest covers 7000 hectares and is located in the southeastern part of the Belgian province of Luxembourg between the Ardennes and the Gaume. The deciduous forest is protected in Europe as a Natura 2000 area and is part of the Haute-Sûre Forest Nature Park of Anlier .

Het loofwoud is Europees beschermd als Natura 2000-gebied en maakt deel uit van het Natuurpark Boven-Sûre Woud van Anlier.

This is another photo from my stroll through the foggy forest around where I live. I took this in a rather dark part of the forest where only conifers tress grows. Therefore, the light almost completely came from the lighter parts of the forest where it got diffused by the mist. This gave the whole scene a wonderful elvish feel.
Wadano is an area in Hakuba village municipality assigned for accommodations and private villas. The area spares a large portion of land for conserving its original vegetation of deciduous forest, which is nice for a stroll.
Autumn colouring was just starting in late October at an altitude of 800 m.
Tall trees in the photo are mostly Mizunara (Japanese oak, Quercus crispula) and Buna (Japanese beech, Fagus crenata) with some Karamatsu or Japanese larch.
It is probably a secondary forest that has been used for the Satoyama type agroforestry.
It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

.Deep within the forest, where only slivers of sunlight reach the land, is the home of the Forest Elves. During the day from spring through autumn, they happily perform endless tasks to keep the forest healthy. They are guided by the Old Man of the Forest who shows them what needs to be done and their extra large ears help them perceive anything amiss in their secret world. In the evening they love to sing songs and frolic in the trees where they sleep. But when the icy snows of winter freeze their mossy playground, they retreat to the crystal caves, where they build sparkling castles hidden beneath the earth.
