The Foresthill Bridge, crossing the American River is the fourth highest bridge in the United States at 730 feet above the river. Sunrise was a bust but I enjoyed playing with my sunstars as the sun was rising over the Sierra foothills. www.optimalfocusphotography.com

I decided to brave the lightning, thunder and rain this evening and hang out under the bridge. The sunset was incredibly vibrant, but the afterglow was what caught my eye.
Now, a little history about the Foresthill Bridge from Wikipedia: The Foresthill Bridge, also referred to as the Auburn-Foresthill Bridge or the Auburn Bridge, is a road bridge crossing over the North Fork American River in Placer County and the Sierra Nevada foothills, in eastern California. It is is the highest (deck height) bridge in California, and the fourth highest in the United States. Originally constructed to accommodate the unbuilt Auburn Dam, the steel deck arch bridge stands 731 feet (223 m) above the riverbed. It was fabricated in 1971 by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Japan, built by Willamette Western Contractors, and opened in 1973. The bridge spans the North Fork of the American River in Placer County between the city of Auburn and the town of Foresthill in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Another benefit of our week camping in the Sierra Foothills was the day hikes we did.
My favorite hike was along what is called the 'Lake Clementine Trail'. It afforded great views of the bridge and river, as seen in this photo. Highlight was the swimming we did at the top of the trail in Lake Clementine itself.
Turns out this bridge is the highest in the State (deck to ground). Was also surprised that the bridge was to cross an eventual dam-created lake, with the water level to approach the top of the concrete pillars. Turns out it's been used in a few movies as well (refer to Wikipedia for details).
3xp internal HDR shot taken along the trail as we hike up the river to Lake Clementine.

This flower was standing alone by the roadside cliffs. Almost looks like we are starting spring already.
