The weather in Michigan has turned decidedly cooler over the past week ... which has ignited my "Fall Fever".
I can't wait to get out there and capture the fall colors! I think I enjoy it even more than photographing lighthouses (or at least it's a toss up).
This photo was taken a few years ago (2005, I think) with my Lumix FZ-10 at Dutton Shadyside Park in Dutton, MI.
In the books of the 17th-19th centuries, Gamayun was described as a legless and wingless bird, ever-flying with the help of a tail, foreshadowing the death of statesmen by her fall.

By 2014, nearly 20 years after becoming a part of the Union Pacific, a handful of road locomotives could still be found wearing the colors of the Chicago and Northwestern. Of these the most notable were the 'dynamic duo' a pair of C&NW C44-9Ws (8646 and 8701) that were still unpatched and thus true C&NW motors. Although much of their later years found them in captive service in the Chicago area, late July 2014 found C&NW 8646 almost improbably leading a westbound double stack train to SoCal.
A blisteringly hot day in the Mojave Desert had given way to overcast gloom that foreshadowed an approaching thunder storm, yet a scant trace of sunlight finds the 8646 as it leads its charge towards Cajon Pass. The second locomotive in the consist UP 9676 also traces its heritage to the C&NW, starting life as C&NW 8612.
The day of the C44-9W on the UP has almost certainly ended, as has C&NW yellow and green survivors on the mainlines of the Union Pacific. On that toasty July afternoon however, 8646 reminded those along the way that the Chicago and Northwestern was not dead yet!

CP 458-16/NS 11R passes the former D&H signal at Laflin, bound for Sunbury and points south. The solid NS power was the norm for this train, and is foreshadowing for what's to come on the D&H. Within the next year, this line and the rest of the D&H below Albany would become NS property. Traffic up here has plummeted since that point, and I haven't bothered coming back since.

Horror and Delight was the title of a Joseph Mallord William Turner exhibition at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture in Münster from 2019 to 2020.
Some may have previously seen Mike Leigh’s film *Mr. Turner*—starring Timothy Spall—at an arthouse cinema, or, like me, viewed his paintings at the Tate, where they were utterly captivated by his extraordinary works; now they are delighted to have the opportunity to see an exhibition of his art in Germany.
At the time, people had no idea that the first part of the title was foreshadowing the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Nothing would ever be the same again.
Even in the open park, people gave each other a wide berth, for everyone else radiated mortal danger, and in Germany—the country most predestined for alternative medicine and conspiracy theories, as well as mistrust of “authority”—people could not imagine ever again enduring such closeness to other people.
At first, there was no remedy; only statistics and, until then, completely unfamiliar words like “triage” fueled the unease.

This photo was of an art installation taken on a street walkabout in 2016 ... perhaps anticipating that Trump would soon begin his reign as 'King' of the USA? Most certainly, its message is a harbinger of his 'work' in his 2nd term!

These type of clouds are formed by strong updraft at lower altitudes, acting upon moist air above, causing the air to cool to its dew point. As such, they are usually indicators of severe weather, and a pileus found atop a cumulus cloud often foreshadows transformation into a cumulonimbus cloud, as it indicates a strong updraft within the cloud.
Today, with temperatures in the low 70's, these clouds would have developed into thunderstorms if it were 4 to 6 weeks later when the sun's ability to enhance instability in the atmosphere is much greater. Note the virga below the dark cloud base.

750° PALIO DI ASTI - 7 Settembre 2025 - Prima batteria.

I heard the first wave of the rising tide(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

The sound of the sea
The sea awoke at midnight from its sleep,
And round the pebbly beaches far and wide
I heard the first wave of the rising tide
Rush onward with uninterrupted sweep;
A voice out of the silence of the deep,
A sound mysteriously multiplied
As of a cataract from the mountain's side,
Or roar of winds upon a wooded steep.
So comes to us at times, from the unknown
And inaccessible solitudes of being,
The rushing of the sea-tides of the soul;
And inspirations, that we deem our own,
Are some divine foreshadowing and foreseeing
Of things beyond our reason or control. (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow))

It snowed a couple of days ago, just a light dusting in town but it made the hills white. It was a foreshadowing of what would happen today -- 10 cm of snow down in the valley. And it is supposed to snow again on Thursday. Winter has arrived.

Fragmento del Poema "Tormenta"
“Van enojados por el cielo
el viento, el frío y la humedad;
nubes enormes ya se encrespan,
algo muy serio va a pasar.
Duro silencio, calma oscura,
de pronto todo estalla ya.
Trémulo el rayo con su espada
saca el relámpago a brillar
el trueno ruge intermitente
y el cielo entero a tumbos va,
el viento rápido jadea,
levanta hinchando todo el mar.
Mario Bilette.
“To crave and to have are as like as a thing and its shadow. For when does a berry break upon the tongue as sweetly as when one longs to taste it, and when is the taste refracted into so many hues and savors of ripeness and earth, and when do our senses know any thing so utterly as when we lack it? And here again is a foreshadowing -- the world will be made whole. For to wish for a hand on one's hair is all but to feel it. So whatever we may lose, every craving gives it back to us again.”
― Marilynne Robinson, Housekeeping
Let me explain why I usually don't dare to say "I love you."
I believe I want to protect both the other person and myself. After many disappointments, I've realized that before saying "I love you", before confessing to the other one and to myself everything I feel, nothing has truly begun.
You know, I can love so deeply that I'm afraid something might begin between me and the other one. That something might come to an end.
So, I don't dare to say "I love you," for fear that this utterance of love foreshadows a change.
A transition.
A fall.
As if, at the end of the words of love, comes the time to destruct. To fall.
To fall in love and get hurt.
To get hurt to the point where we can no longer rise from the confession of our feelings.
Some hearts can hardly bear the weight of honesty.
And what if I simply wanted to preserve our eternity?
Leaving us on the edge of all that we might be.
Like that suspended moment before the first kiss, where a tiny space seems to contain infinite measures... and where even time itself refuses to pass.
Roskva is the heaviest, hardest, and strongest of the trolls. Every day, Roskva climbs towards the sky, and every year she grows taller and wider. If a troll forgets something, they can always ask Roskva—she counts the seasons and remembers everything. This troll can be seen in the forests of the Costal Maine Botanical Gardens, in Boothbay, Maine.
The trolls were created by Thomas Dambo who lives and works in Copenhagen. Dambo has become one of the fastest-growing personalities in the Scandinavian art world. As a child, he would scavenge his neighborhood for discarded wood for his projects, carting it home on his bicycle. This childhood love of “treasure” hunting certainly foreshadowed his now global troll hunts.
Distant thunderheads about to be obscured by another column base creeping up the Currumbin Valley. A shelf cloud foreshadows the nearest thunderhead as cold air slips beneath warmer air along the Gold coast to the left. Thunder is resonating from all directions, the sound track Gold Coast summer storms.
For a coupe of days we watched different rosellas check out this hole in a tree at the Tumut Caravan Park. Eventually, this one took up residence and began renovating .... foreshadowing what would face us when we got home in a few days.

They are coming in my country just right around the corner. It's pretty bad when you start hoping that the drones in NJ are actually signs of intelligent life (not to be found on Earth!) and that maybe they'll take me with them.
Increasingly more, I find myself believing in UAP and black holes-alternate timelines from quantum mechanics and I don't know if it's just a coping mechanism or what. But whatever it is, it still seems easier than coming to terms with the fact that the majority of Americans voted for a criminal because they were too racist and sexist to vote for an intelligent, reasonable human instead. I still find it all so unconscionable.
Or even more illogical-that a bunch of billionaires are going to lower their grocery bills. This is the worst joke ever told to a mass population.
Yeah, the UAP are again our only hope for actual intelligent life at this point.

CN 8315 and CN 5712 lead train 424 through Bayview early on a sunny April morning.
The 5712 will likely one day emerg as a rebuilt 8300 as well.
It seemed like a good day to climb the Bláhnukúr but it wasn't. The very strong wind was already foreshadowing that it was not a good day to go up there. The occasional rain and snow subsided every 20-30 minutes, and finally we gave up. Usually you can see people following the path, but not that day.
Red sands, rocky mountains, immense skies, silence on the peaks and from one of them I could enjoy the colors of a spectacular sunset. The clouds already foreshadowed a storm, it arrives the follovingt day, forcing us to stay locked in the tents for more than 3 hours!

Please join me in wishing a lovely and talented friend of mine--Ella--a very happy birthday! I like flickr for showing me the possibilities with photography but I appreciate the friendships that I've made here more. Thanks for being such a supportive friend! She shares the same birthday with one of my sisters so wishes to her as well, although she is not on flickr. =) Hope you have a great day!
have a great week, everyone...
One of my attempts at the "Looking Close.. on Friday" theme "Words of Love".
The words on love written by Franz Kafka are perhaps not the most romantic or catchy ones out there, however they seem very meaningful to me. I feel like they capture the incredible, limitless force love can be…

It is that time of year when autumn is foreshadowed and cold temperatures during the night cooperate with the 'summer warmed' lake and combine to create fog early in the morning. The sun erases all trace of it by noon but for some hours at least, colour of any hue is hard to find.
This new lens of mine is fast becoming a personal favourite. :)
