Look at the curvature of the left spire. This is NOT all pincushion distortion!

The unusual shape of the spires presents major problems in damping resonant vibrations caused by the wind. If unchecked, such vibrations can shake the structures apart apart

The Air Force Memorial opened officially on Saturday, October 14. The stainless steel spires represent the "bomb burst" aeronautical maneuver, which is usually done by four jet fighters.

Small set of waterfalls on the River Tees near Bowlees.

A late upload for me today.

This is Orgate Force, located on Marske Beck a tributary of The Swale.

It can be found about a mile along a little lane just out of Marske village.

It's just typical that after 3 days of rain and dull skies, the sun starts to shine as i set off for this place.

This patch was used by the United States Army Air Corp and later the U.S. Air Force's 15th Air Force from 1944 through the mid-1950's.

The information boards suggested that the High Force Falls was "among" the highest waterfalls of England.

It made a nice sound.

Ashgill flows from the remote hills around Alston, in East Cumbria down to the South Tyne River near Garrigill, some 4 miles from Alston. The waterfall is around 50 feet high as it falls from its rocky plateau to the valley below. This area used to be a rich source of quality lead which was mined intensively. A path leads behind the waterfall as you can see here!

Ashgill Force is located near to the small and attractive Pennine village of Garrigill and around four miles from the isolated market town of Alston in Cumbria's Eden District. The force is the highest waterfall in the area. Ashgill was once an industrial landscape where high quality lead was mined.

Ashgill Burn begins its life as a small stream known as Little Gill, it finds its source at a height of more than 2,300 feet on the north-western slopes of Burnhope Seat in the North Pennine Hills. The gill descends into a steep gorge as it reaches the Pennine road from Alston to Middleton-in-Teesdale (B6277) and below the road bridge the gill falls a spectacular fifty feet from a rock shelf into a pool in the wooded valley below.
