Note the photographer having a paddle ! "Force" is local dialect for "falls" and does not refer to the power or flow of the river, hence these are the higher (upstream) falls on the upper river Tees.

The village of Garrigill is located approximately 5 miles from Alston and just to the east of it there is a deep gorge and the impressive tumbling Ashgill Burn.

Ashgill Force is the main waterfall located directly below an arched road bridge. The waterfall has a 50ft drop and it is possible to walk behind it due to the erosion of the rocks.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is an American four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built by Lockheed (now Lockheed Martin). Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medevac, and cargo transport aircraft.

The versatile airframe has found uses in other roles, including as a gunship (AC-130), for airborne assault, search and rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance, aerial refueling, maritime patrol, and aerial firefighting. It is now the main tactical airlifter for many military forces worldwide. More than 40 variants of the Hercules, including civilian versions marketed as the Lockheed L-100, operate in more than 60 nations.

The C-130 entered service with the U.S. in 1956, followed by Australia and many other nations. During its years of service, the Hercules has participated in numerous military, civilian and humanitarian aid operations. In 2007, the transport became the fifth aircraft to mark 50 years of continuous service with its original primary customer, which for the C-130 is the United States Air Force. The C-130 is the longest continuously produced military aircraft at more than 60 years, with the updated Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules being produced as of 2023.

Designed in the 1950's for the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, the 'Bucc' was a shipboard bomber designed to carry a nuclear weapon at wave top level to strike at the heart of the enemy by skimming across the sea undetected by radar

Once the Navy retired their last steam-catapult equipped Aircraft carrier - HMS Ark Royal, the Buccaneers were transferred to the RAF which reluctantly accepted their 'Naval' legacy but in the end the 'Flying Banana' worked it's way into the latter's hearts being used as a highly effective target designator during the first Gulf War

I love going to "new" waterfalls, the sound and the first glimpse, through the trees is fantastic. Then comes the fun of trying to find the best angles. Scaleber Force is about a hundred yards away from a road and easy to access, down a path, it's probably the most beautiful cascade I've ever visited, did I mention the Midges though?!

FEMME FORCE! Superhero defenders of the near-future city of Neo-Sydney! Tempest, princess of an underwater land. Can transform her body into fluids, and control waves. Cannot, contrary to popular belief, talk to fish. Femme Force member most likely to hog the bathtub.

You've got to be there early to get it without people!

My first visit to High Force in Teesdale. I've been to Low Force before but never made it to its big brother, so to speak but I'm glad we did this time as there was plenty of water cascading over and despite a good number of other visitors there was still plenty of room to view without obstruction.

For the shot on colour film, stepping a few metres to the right was advantageous, I thought. Composition in colour is a significantly different art from composition in monochrome.

Stainforth Force flowing powerfully after a deluge of summer rain in the south of the Yorkshire Dales. All the images I'd seen of this waterfall beforehand made it look rather underwhelming in all honesty, so I had fairly low expectations for capturing anything from my early morning visit. How wrong I was, the waterfall was actually pretty damn impressive! With this wide angle shot I wanted to capture as much as the flowing water thundering its way over the rocks as I could, whilst including the lovely bridge over the river in the backdrop.
