7-footer - Female Golden Eagle cruises by the hillside during a gap in the rains. It is very tough to expose for this species and to capture an image showing the feather detail and scale of the 7 foot wingspan. Was really fortunate to be able to do that here.

Species: Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)

Location: Northern California, CA, USA

Equipment: Canon EOS R5 + EF 100-400mm IS II

Settings: 1/2000s, ISO: 1250, f/5.6 @400mm, Electronic Shutter, Handheld

The 1000' long Edwin H Gott navigates the straits between Mackinac Island and Round Island, seen from the Cuploa Bar at Grand Hotel. The Gott was built in 1978 and pretty much exlusively hauls taconite, and can haul 74,100 tons at a time. It's diesel engines produce a whopping 19,500 horsepower, making it the most powerful ship on the lakes. It is also one of 13 1000' vessels on the Great Lakes.

Well having done the low level fast jet photography for just over a decade there was a shot I still didn`t have from my local Low Fly area,a Tornado Gr4 over the water of St Mary`s Loch in the Scottish Borders at the lowest training altitude of 100ft. With the countdown on to the end of these aircrafts flying life I was delighted to finally catch a pair doing just that this week, what a sight to see, unfortunately these pictures don`t capture the vortex of the jets bouncing of the water but it`s quite an image.

Do you have a favorite mountain? Mt. Shasta's mine. It was the first 14,000 footer that I ever saw, and it has this very special mystique about it that other mountains don't have. I mean, what other mountain has a legend about a different race of beings (Luminaries) living inside it? It's also a vortex site which draws many people from all over the world to attempt to absorb its special energies.

One of American Steamship's 1,000 footers, the American Integrity, departs Cleveland Bulk Terminal late on the evening of June 5, 2011. Of railfan interest, she has 4 645 V20 3600HP diesel engines similar to those used in the SD45

I have to admit that this challenge had me stymied. It's not that I'm not thankful fro anything, but my mind drew a total blank when it came to ideas for a way to show it creatively. I was going to take a picture of my family gathering, but was unable to make the long round trip to to health issues. ( I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the energy just wasn't there this week.) This doesn't look like much, but it is part of the footers for my future house. They broke ground this week and I am so excited! And I am so thankful that my late husband left me with the means to be able to build and move into a home that will be easy to take care of and meet my needs as I grow older. I am presently in a big house on 11 plus acres, and it is way too much for me to take care of. The new house will be just the right size for me and it's one of those "minimal" maintenance" communities where they do the lawn care and snow removal. Just perfect for an "empty nester."

I took this photo during the day and decided to go back at night. Here are the thousand footers Edgar B. Speer and the Stewart J. Cort, of which the Cort was the first built and the only one with the wheelhouse at the bow in traditional laker style.
