Compositionally Challenged
Week 21 Food and Drink
Shot with a Schneider Kreuznach "Xenon 75 mm F2" on a Canon EOS R5.
I'd been thinking about Macro Mondays theme of Sidelit for a few days, trying to work out what looks good with this type of lighting. I also wanted to get a true macro, where you see detail not usually seen with a normal glance.
The gibbous Moon is fantastic seen by sidelighting, so I realised I wanted to recreate that feeling.
A 5mm peppercorn provided the Moon, and a torch gave the Sun's light falling on one side.
A bit of work in Photoshop to remove the needle holding the "Moon" in front of a black background, and job done!
100mm macro lens with stacked extension tubes giving an extra 68mm...

Souvenir d'une promenade à Rome: un petit rafraîchissement bien agréable dans un petit bistrot à côté de la Fontana di Trevi.
After 6 hours snowboarding in -13 when I've not been for 2 years I needed this tonight when I got back to the cabin (although admittedly I did not drink it outside in the snow!)

One for Macro Mondays theme of Smell.
One of those random questions popped up on Facebook the other day: "What food do you hate?"
My answer gave me the idea for Macro Mondays when I saw this, so here you have a little knife cutting into Castello Creamy Blue cheese... yuk!
Dave won't complain as he loves it...
Approx 1" across.
Banana bread loaded with toasted walnuts and dark chocolate chunks, recipe adapted from Joanne Chang's Flour Bakery.

A high key one of Sweets for Macro Mondays theme of Sweet or Savoury.
I have always had a terrible sweet tooth, and these were favourites as a child.
Photographed on a light pad, with one small light on the left, then processed to enhance the already high key result.
These are 1.5" across as shown in comments, or should I say were, as they are disappearing rapidly!
So we headed out last night at about 6pm as the sky was clear and we were getting aurora alerts. Eventually it showed its (very faint) self low down, but it was only really visible in camera. High ISO made this a little difficult to edit and it certainly isn't my best but Gaz challenged me to get a food/drink photo with the northern lights so I couldn't let him down!

Well this shot was a surprise...as 10 minutes previous I had been having one of my classic "adult tantrums" about how I couldn't think of a photo, and there was "no food in the kitchen". Andy was his usual helpful self and spoke to me with reasoning and logic, and eventually persuaded me that this was a good and feasible shot to do on a Sunday night! And for that I am grateful as always :-D.
