According to legend, the deep Lake Lagarfjlót is said to hold a beast called the Lagarfljót Wyrm, a cousin of the Loch Ness Monster with a lot more history. While the earliest significant records of Nessie go back to the 1870s, the Lagarfjlót Wyrm has been spoken about since 1345.

Event that takes place every summer in Luino on Lake Maggiore

Iceland is rich in folklore about elves, trolls and monsters. In the movie Katla, human figures emerge from a volcano to take on human forms. How many faces can YOU find hidden in these cliffs along the coast of southern Iceland? Zoom in and look carefully.

Folklore is the set of creations of a cultural community, based on the traditions of a group or individuals, which express their cultural and social identity, in addition to the customs and values that are transmitted orally, passing from generation to generation. In Brazil, folklore was the result of the mixing of three peoples (indigenous, Portuguese and African) and the influence of immigrants from various parts of the world. Therefore, Brazil has a varied, rich and very peculiar folk tradition. In each Brazilian region, folklore presents similarities and differences.

The Devil's Needle

"The dragonfly occupies a strange position in folklore."

To say the truth I knew two things about dragonflies. They can fly backwards and their faces are really ugly.

However, this interesting article, from where I got the quotation above, took me to an interesting journey to know how different people think about dragonflies.

Are dragonflies good or bad? Do they represent wisdom or are they the devil's needles? Read to know.

Scottish folklore tells us that a Beithir should be approached very carefully as it is described as “The largest and most deadly kind of Serpent” and is equipped with a venomous sting. If a person is stung by the Beithir then they must head for the nearest body of water, if they reach it before the Beithir does then they are cured, but if the monster reaches it first then the victim is doomed and turned into stone…………….so be very careful when visiting.

The Moeraki Boulders under the sunrise's golden light.

The Maori folklore says that the boulders were once food baskets and gourds used by ancient people aboard a famous canoe that overturned at sea. Washed ashore, they turned to stone.

For me, letting my imagination ran wild, they looked like a huge fossilized egg, laid by some enormous prehistoric animals. Yup, dinosaur eggs!

How big is the boulder, you say? Well, some of them is is up to my chest. And do remember, part of if is buried in the sand!
