Photo was taken in Vlkolinec village,Slovakia.
Vlkolinec has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993, and is one of ten Slovak villages that have been given the status of a folk architecture reservations. Skanzen in my hometown revisited. I had bad lights so had to mess with textures, please bear with me...
This one is how a village looked like some 200 years ago. I absolutely love this architecture, the houses are cleverly found out and built with loving attention to detail. they also "work" very nice, it feels great to stay in them. I would love to live in a village like this.
The texture I used here is Nargothrond from Max F. Williams.
The exif file lies, this was taken with a 35mm/f2 manual focus lens
Transylvania is a land of harmony and contradictions. I found this interesting combo of centuries old folk architecture and modern technology in a remote little village.

This is a late addition to Assignment52 - A Weekly Photo Adventure group, sorry for being late, I was away from flickr for some time. I'll try to catch up this weekend...
A friend of mine lives here, in this small village in my home county, with 79 inhabitants and picturesque lands around. Large parcels or old houses like this can be bought and renewed for beans – very tempting ;-)

She was waiting for the cabbage dealers who were driving on the street selling fresh cabbage from a trailer. Behind her is a doorway typical to the Hungarian habited parts of Transylvania, Székelyföld (Sekler land). These ornate gates carved from wood can be found very frequently, they have a special role in their life, separating their private world from the rest of the universe.

The Ole E. Fauske House was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 29, 2021, at a local level of significance for its association Ole E. Fauske and its Folk Victorian architectural style.
Built in 1902, the Fauske House serves as an excellent example of a Folk Victorian style of architecture. Elements of the Folk Victorian style that are present include a symmetrical façade, a front porch with gingerbread ornamentation, and a gingerbread cornice.
Ole E. Fauske, a Norwegian immigrant, was an early settler and businessman of Minnehaha County. From his family’s arrival to Minnehaha County, Dakota Territory in c.1873 to his death in 1941, Ole E. Fauske held numerous titles in the area ranging from store merchant, postmaster, investor, landowner, and clerk on the Brandon Township Board. Ole E. Fauske was a vital member to his community in Corson, South Dakota and the surrounding area based on the economic impact he had through his business ventures, civil service, and economic activities.

The mayor of this little village is a joiner, reviving the traditions of old days, he makes windows like this for the people moving to the place and building new homes...

The tour after party was held at the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, an art gallery, museum and wayfarer's chapel high in the Catalina Foothills. This hand-built gallery was designed by artist Ted DeGrazia and constructed under his supervision. It is decorated with the paintings of DeGrazia and has thick adobe walls, buttressed corners, and rounded building forms that evoke the architectural expression of New Mexico, but the gallery is done in more of a folk tradition. The Mission in the Sun chapel building is open to the air, creating a peaceful, contemplative space. The isolation this complex once enjoyed has been compromised by the growth of homes in this part of the foothills.
The Henry Kuhle House was added to the National Register in January of 2008. Photographs from SHPO site visit in 2007.
The house is located in Salem, McCook County and was built in 1897 and holds significance for being one of the oldest homes that still remains in the town of Salem. This Folk Victorian style home provides a great example of the type of house that was built in small town eastern South Dakota during the late nineteenth century promoted by railroad development. Folk Victorian is defined by the presence of Victorian decorative detailing on simple folk house forms. These details are usually either Italianate or Queen Anne inspired. Some of these features present in the Kuhle house are a side gable and wing, spindle work and supporting columns on the front entrance, vergeboard in the gables and decorative window pediments.
Henry Kuhle was a prominent local businessman who dealt with construction and the buying and selling of properties in and around Salem. His entrepreneurship and investment was instrumental in the early development of the city by helping the process of building many important businesses in the city including; the DeGrand Opera House, Kuhle Grocery Store and the Salem Opera House and Hotel. At one point, Kuhle purchased up to 20 residential lots that he then sold to individuals in the town as an investment.

There are hundreds of old and nice little christian churches in Transylvania, at least one or two hiding in every little village...

The Jacob Ochszner Sr. House was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 as part of the multiple property cover for German-Russian Folk Architecture in South Dakota. Photo from county architectural survey, 2016.
Jacob Ochszner Sr. emigrated from Worms, South Russia in 1884 and in 1885 moved to this area. Records indicate him building a sod house in 1885 and a "mud brick" house in 1889. His son Jacob, Jr, lived here in 1911. In 1930s house passed to Stickelmeier family, they planted one of the first shelterbelts in the area.
The vernacular house had a puddled clay veneer over board siding with a batsa brick core wall; all on a shallow stone and mortar foundation. On the interior, traditional colors of oxblood red, turquoise and dark green were used in the decoration.
