I didn't like the results of any of my attempts at using the SX-70 to take a photo of this figurine of my favorite (ex-)Presidential candidate in my Foldio 3 portable studio. But when I put them all together, it worked.

Focus stack (12 images). Shot with two off-camera flashes (Leica SF60 /Leica SF C1 trigger) placed along sides of a 15 inch Foldio Studio light box at 90 degrees to subject. Strobes also modified with MagMod MagSphere diffusers to spread light.

Subject was challenging to light as the surface was smooth, reflective and white, with very few sharp edges. Focusing was accomplished by placing a ruler along the side of the object and focusing along the measuring scale at half inch increments.

Unknown artist, circa 2005.

Focus stacked, 26 images. Shot with two off camera Leica SF60 strobes placed at 45 degrees front left back right side of camera diffused through white corrugated polypropylene sides of a 24 inch Foldio light box. Triggered with Leica SF C1 remote.

I finally got around to getting my “grail”watch…specifically, this 1995 Rolex Submariner 14060. I got if for a (relative) bargain from Jacek Kozubek at Tropical Watches, as it came with no box or papers, has Luminova service hands and no bracelet. I’m not bothered by any of that. I like the watch for what it is.

There’s a lot to love about a no-date, two liner sub, and I’m not sure I have anything new to add to the conversation. It’s a great watch. Yes the newer ones are technically a little better, but the fatter lugs of the later subs are actively unappealing to me. I’ve always had my heart set on a 14060. My only real regret is not getting it sooner.

I’ve had several other watches trying to scratch the itch of REALLY wanting this one, and they never quite cut it. Some of them are really nice watches in their own right, but they aren’t this one. I had talked myself out of getting the 14060 for years, thinking the price will maybe come down again to where it was a few years ago. I don’t think that’s going to happen.

It’s now on an unlined brown Horween Shell strap that I made myself from some scraps I had lying around.

I took this photo in my Foldio light box, with the overhead lights mostly dimmed, and a folded piece of paper as a reflector. The background is some black tumbled Horween Shell Cordovan.

Today I photographed the nib on my Montblanc 149 fountain pen with my new Foldio Mobile Studio. It is so easy to achieve good results with the Foldio.

Recently I got the keys to my new apartment. The first thing I did was install new door locks, with new keys. Just in case...

BTW, I took this photo in a Foldio portable studio with the black background. However it's not as black as I want it to be. Any tips on how to get a pitch black background, yet having the main object properly lit / exposed?

My Intrepid 8x10 showed up yesterday, the last piece I needed to be able to shoot Polaroid Originals' 8x10 film. This is my first shot with it. It's maybe a touch overexposed; you can't really see the details in Elizabeth's face, or her glasses, but much darker and Ruth's gown would totally disappear. I'm pretty happy with this. Look forward to lots of fun with the camera.

One of my favorite old radios shot with my new-to-me Century Studio No. 5 on a J. Lane 5x7 dry plate. Used the Foldio 3 portable studio. Probably should have used the white background, but maybe not.

I came back from the Photography Show last week end with a nifty little portable desktop studio called a Foldio and a new 12-100 Olympus lens. Whilst the lens isn't a true macro it does focus pretty close. So this is from my mineral collection taken with my new equipment and using the Wifi connection on the camera to give me live view on my iPad and a remote release. All seem to work very well so I am pleased.

It's a specimen from Jalna in Western India and includes Scolecite needles and Stilbite

I would say this is the first actual good photograph I've gotten out of my new-to-me Century Studio No. 5 5x7 camera. I shot this again on Ilford Harman Direct Positive Paper, developed in some Adox Neutol Eco that came with my Fojo enlarger a few years ago. I used a Foldio 3 photo studio as well, with a black-ish backdrop. I think this turned out pretty well. Wish I could have gotten closer to fill more of the frame with Enid, but the camera only has so much bellows extension.

Heavy crop from a 8x10 Velvia 50 slide - reproduction ratio is as high as bellows would allow, so very close to 1:1.

The film expired in 2001 but came out very good - it appears a little fogged because I forgot to account for reciprocity but this cleaned up very well via exposure correction during scanning.

Shot in a Foldio 2 lightbox. I didn't spot the scan as I intend to rescan it once I've figured out a better film holder solution, for now it's just a 1.5mm thich piece of cardboard with a whole cut in the middle.
