High contrast and keep the colour

The fog off of Lake Michigan had formed a nice cap on the Milwaukee Discovery World Museum. It is the work of James W. Shields.

Photographed using a Sony Alpha A7R using a Nikkor 300mm f/4 lens.

A fog bow is created when the sun shines on a fog wall and the light is reflected by the fog droplets. The droplets must be at least 5 microns in size - the smaller the droplets, the fainter the arc until it is no longer perceptible to the naked eye. In contrast to the rainbow, the incident light is not broken into the different colors.

Since I had the day off of work yesterday, I took a stroll through a local park and photographed the fog before the heavy rain came through.

The light was really weird in the fog. From car headlights, you could see where the orange light stopped and turned into pitch black shadow, and the same thing with the street lights.

i love fog (:

everytime it's been foggy, i've always wanted to go out and take pictures

and today i actually had some time because we had an uber short practice, if any at all.

It was a quick ten minute jog, and some stretching then home!

Tomorrow is League Finals, which will mark the end of my XC season

which means more free time for photos :D

it's better

There was still some morning fog in the countryside when I saw these couple of trees and the sun almost covered by the clouds. The feeling was, one more time, silence, loneliness and mistery. The noise of the shot was the only one to disturb the muffled atmosphere. Magic.

Just a few pictures of Chester taken on a very foggy evening in cold January. I was keen to try something different when editing these, aiming to give them a cinematic feel—particularly inspired by certain moments from the film Blade Runner 2049.

The winter remains of a corn field in San Joaquin Valley

I used to imagine that wildlife refuges, those areas that are intended to provide habitat for wild critters, were something like parks of wilderness. Since I've been photographing winter birds in California I have learned that this presumption is usually dead wrong. There are a few such places that are left in their natural state, but many of them are distinctly non-natural locations. (Many are also there because hunters want to ensure that birds are there for them.) Quite a few of these places are agricultural, including some that I often visit.

I've seen some where the flooded winter fields were rice fields. This one is a corn field during much of the year and part of a very interesting and busy wildlife refuge in the winter. As I was there photographing birds recently, I looked across a field of dead corn plants fading into the distant fog and something about this desolate scene seemed worth a photograph, and I like the rather different mood that it evokes for me.

Now I know why smokeless gun powder was considered such an advantage.

Loved seeing the fog roll in to Bjarnarfjörður and film it. It was moving quite fast but the videos are at 4xspeed. Darkened the image a bit as to not overexpose the clouds.

I woke at 4.30am to for a pee, saw fog, so I went out photo'ing in my PJs.

Fog is a lovely atmosphere, one I've always struggled to capture. It can be used to set all sorts of moods, but for this I wanted to linger on the idea of "nothing beyond." However, the fishermen seem to be returning from this "nothing". Perhaps they have rescued a certain captain from Davy Jones' Locker ;)
