Omu Peak - Dense Fog (and adventure) - Bucegi Mountains, Romania

Fog formed from cold air over the warm lake water.

Villages and hills in Monferrato with Alps as background, Piedmont, Italy. Langhe, Roero and Monferrato are places among precious wines, villages and castles. Wonderful landscapes sculpted by the combined action of nature and man, gentle hilly expanses dotted with wines as far as the eye can see, ancient villages surrounded by fields and imposing castles perched on hilltops.

The other morning I got up a little early to try to capture some dense fog on campus and to break in some new glass. My preconceived thoughts on some images were not quite what I imagined when the fog was less dense on campus and more of a hazy mist, but I wandered through the main quad to try to capture the tree lights together with the rich blue hour. While I am not excited about the prospect of the approaching winter, I do look forward to seeing this place covered in snow.

The mystery fog over the city side. not much to cover the whole city yet :). I do like to see the sunrise colors at hawk hill.

Condensation from a heavy fog yesterday....

The fog was lifting and it was over within a couple of minutes so I had to hurry.

I did not add any vinjetting to the picture even if it seems so. I do not know why it became so pronounced. The only thing I did was to darken it a bit.

Fog rolling in on a field on the Mendip Hills in Somerset

Fog city sunset colors :) The fog was rolling into the bay but not much at this time. Layer of colors -> red and blue in the sky during the sunset time. You have to be in the right spot and wait for this moment. It lasted no more than 5 minutes?? Not that easy to capture it. One of my lucky snapshot of the day :)

Had no tripod with me, so I used a fencepole.

Portland Head Lighthouse

Casco Bay

10:50 a.m. in Mid-September

Cape Elizabeth, Maine

According to our B&B owner, our several days on the Maine coast last September came about a month into a period of foggy days -- days when fog either didn't clear, or clear for just a few hours in the early afternoon; this was taken shortly before 11 in the morning. Some distance in from the coast, the fog lifted, but it continued to hug the coast. So much for plans for coastal sunrises and sunsets, which had caused me to book a B&B near a lighthouse. I have photos of this lighthouse from my pre-digital days that show it under beautiful skies -- but it's not always sunny, with pretty skies.

Portland Head Light was completed in 1790 at Cape Elizabeth, on the west side of the channel to Portland harbor, in what was then Massachusetts (Maine became a state in 1820). It was the first lighthouse completed by U.S. government under a 1789 law making lighthouses a national responsibility. The tower is 80 feet tall and rises 101 feet above the water. A 4th-order Fresnel lens was installed in 1855 and later upgraded to a 2nd-order Fresnel lens, which was replaced by an aero beacon in 1958. The lighthouse was automated in 1989; the town of Cape Elizabeth has owned the lighthouse property since 1993 and has a museum and a gift shop there, but the U.S. Coast Guard controls the light and fog signal. Portland Head Light was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 (73000121) [see Lighthouse Friends].

A rare landscape for me. After taking a painting class by David Ludwig at BC3 this past semister, i fell in love with the abstract landscape. here it reflects in my photography.

Such a moody day. I love the super wide angle of the fisheye corrected back to almost normal.

One of the few days with fog in Tortosa. It came and went several times this morning. People were out taking pics of this special weather.

Einer der wenigen Tage in Tortosa mit Nebel. Die Nebelschwaden kamen und verschwanden wieder... viele Leute waren mit Kameras unterwegs um das festzuhalten.

Monterey Cypress trees on a rocky knoll above the Pacific Ocean in foggy morning light, Point Lobos

Driving to Point Lobos from the San Francisco Bay Area in the early morning, I was not quite sure what conditions I would find. The forecast was for fog, clearing out before noon, but you can hardly ever tell for sure how this will evolve. A few days early I had been here on a day with a similar forecast and it never cleared. On this morning, however, it turned out that the fog was actually thicker inland, and it turned out that it cleared at the coast first!

We hiked over to the north shore trail, starting at a bluff above Whalers Cove, then climbing up to the higher bluffs that skirt the north shore of the park above steep and rocky cliffs that drop straight down to coastal coves. At first the fog was gray and almost oppressive. One can photograph in such conditions, but it is difficult to work the flat light. But very soon something much better began to arrive. As the fog cleared and the fog/sun boundary moved across the shore, the foggy atmosphere began to glow, and even in this soft light the colors began to intensify.

TR.iPod and I were on our way three weekends ago to the TallGrass Prairie. We found fog that we could get "over" only once...here. So at dawn, we stopped to try to get some photographs...the pickings were a bit lean...but here it is.
