Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, is muscimol mushroom. Spots may fall off in heavy rain, the colour also fades to brown or yellow with age.

I saw a couple of these in the grasses just off the path going up from the top parking area.

We have bought a fancy (tough and waterproof) point and shoot. We broke the last one just outside of a year so decided to save and spend a little bit more. This new one also has a macro setting so I had a little play this evening - might take some practice to get the focus sorted!

As four of us photographers stood overlooking the Grand River waiting for a fly-by one of the eagles made a quick appearance. Looks like his mate requested more soft nesting material to make it easier to sit in the nest for hours.

 

Another from the archives - 2015 (collage compiled 190219). Tho the eyes are distinctive, I never did manage to identify this one. Suggestions welcome.

 

Edit. Is Physiphora alceae, a picture-winged fly, identified via Nigel Jones and Maria/Rockwolf.
