South Slope, Burnaby, British Columbia

This year’s flu shot given at the local pharmacy . The Covid vaccine was given the same day in the other arm. Her arms were achy the next day. Hurting me Covid vaccine on the arm but much better to prevent terrible Covid. It is vaccine is available now for eligible individuals terrible.

For MacroMonday, Staying Healthy

I am required to get one for work, but I would get one even if I weren't required. It's that time of year again. Many pharmacies are already offering the flu shot for this season.

AVERSE FLUSHOT REACTION 2018

no it's not COVID. Probably a very bad flubug the doctor said

which seems to be going around causing bad balance and such.

Lindsey and I got our flu shots today. It takes about two weeks for it to take effect, so don’t put it off too long.

I also got the first of two shots for Shingles. Not gonna lie, this one stung a bit, but not too bad.

Two registered nurses of the Pasadena Health Department and Huntington Hospital giving free flu shots at the Farmers Market this morning. Public health personnel work hard to ensure that the health of our communities is safeguarded. I thanked them for what they do (as a retired public health person myself).

......It’s coming......don’t forget to get your flu shot. It takes at least two weeks to take effect, don’t wait too late in the season.

However, maybe not such a good idea to be driving a scooter in late November?

Flu shotted :)

Normally not something I think twice about…I just walk into whatever pharmacy is nearby and get one as soon as they are available.

This year was a little different, and necessitated booking an appointment.

T'was the month before Christmas, when all through the office,

The staff were preparing for the holiday ruckus.

The test-tubes were hung in the centrifuge with care,

In hopes that the courier soon would be there.

The secretaries were nestled all snug at their stations,

On their monitors flashed visions of Florida vacations.

And Mary with stethoscope, and me in my tunic,

Had just settled down for our day at the clinic.

When out in the waiting room there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the receptionist I flew like a flash,

Slid open the window nearly ripping the sash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a commotion in the waiting room, back at the rear.

There he was, a strange walk-in, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment he must be Saint Nick.

More rapid than eagles did the other patients scatter,

And I whistled and shouted, and asked them to gather.

"Now look everyone, I must tend to him first,

I'll get to you all by five, at the worst."

That Santa, he dashed away, away down the hall,

To the exam room, jumping on the table by the wall.

He tore off his clothes that were all tarnished with soot,

And I checked him all over from his head to his foot.

He had a broad face and a round little belly

but his skin was all wrinkly and he a bit smelly.

The beard of his chin was as white as the snow,

I gave it a yank, he yelled "Ouch, it's real, you know!"

He was chubby and plump a right jolly old elf,

Yet his BP and glucose were good, I remarked to myself.

Santa, I said, "you're fit despite your old age,

Here's a note that says so", and I signed the page.

Now, one last thing, please roll up your sleeve,

You must get your flu shot before you take leave.

Then with a wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

He jumped off the table and down the hallway he fled.

Then I heard him exclaim as he ran out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night"

Cherish - David Cassidy (1972)

Dedicated to my lovely wife Sue who continues to walk the line with me & I with her through the most treacherous waters of our lifetimes on a number of related fronts during the second wave of COVID-19...like many I'm sure.

We dig deep & reach back further than we ever have before to deliver our very best pitches every single day against this formidable foe & the hardships it has caused...some on a very personal level now.

Both of us received our annual flu shots early this morning in an effort to get out in front of what could potentially be a double whammy health threat his winter.

The process was absolutely safe & so easy at our local pharmacy.

The vaccine is in short supply here so it's on a first come first served basis.

I have no idea whether it will be enough.

All I know is we have done the very best we could with the knowledge we have.

With that in mind, we wouldn't have done anything any differently than we have...only time will tell.

The luckiest man in the world still lives right here!

Today’s events: had the news on in my office all day as several fires had broken out and were causing havoc. I had been coughing all morning due to the dirt and soot and Santa Ana winds. Steve let me know that he really wasn’t feeling well at work and that he was getting sick so I decided to get the flu shot for the first time in my life. Hoping I do t have any weird side effects.

Protecting yourself and others from the flu can be as easy as a quick roll of the sleeve and a poke in the arm.

The flu shot is available throughout the province at public health clinics, physicians’ offices, travel clinics and pharmacies. It is free in BC for children between six months and five years, seniors 65 and older, pregnant women, Aboriginal people, and individuals with chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems. As well, the nasal spray flu vaccine is provided free at public health clinics and physicians’ offices to children 2 to 17 years of age who are at risk of serious illness from influenza or who live with someone who is at risk.

Each year, influenza kills more Canadians than all other vaccine-preventable illnesses combined. Clinics now are open throughout the province, and British Columbians can get immunized at a wide variety of locations - from dedicated flu clinics, to doctors’ offices or local pharmacies.
