The Rhododendrons are currently keeping the bees very busy. There's more blossoms this year than I've ever seen.
Late blooming hydrangea. This little plant seems to be a few weeks behind the other hydrangea in our area but is providing a small splash of colour.

The wild snake's head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) belongs to the lily family. These flowers feature a distinctive checkered pattern in deep red and purple and hang like small bells from their stems. Occasionally, a white variant, known as the Zwolse tulip, appears among the purple flowers.

September 1979 (film, of course). Inside the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, South India. The temple is dedicated to Shiva, and one of his symbols is the lingam (rubbed in ghee, butter, and decorated with flowers daily). There are 252 lingams here in total. At the time, I was preparing a research project on religion and erotic imagery - the lingam, strictly speaking, represents the male organ sticking in the female one. After having talked to priests and practitioners, I abandoned my research. I had discovered that my question contained no meaning for Hindus.
