Peyto Lake, Banff National Park.
It was an overcast and rainy morning so we were able to bypass the main parking lot and head to an upper lot to reduce the amount of time of the hike to get to this spot off a small dirt trail. This rock outcropping is another 15-20min or so from the main viewpoint and the views are stunning from here. I met an Australian photographer at this spot and we swapped portraits of each other from a top of one of the rock ledges. This one is without either of us in it. I like how it shows the run off from the mountain snow through the rock and mud and into the lake. This glacial migration is considered rock flour. This was our second stop on the Icefields Parkway.

Lunes / Mondays: Tema Libre
Macro Monday's and the theme of "Mesh".
This is the moment of dropping around half a teaspoonful of Flour onto a Sieve. My flash was set behind and just to the right of the subject.
The mesh of the Sieve is plastic and allowed some light to pass through it.

A wet grey day, so we went to Standen (National Trust) for lunch and a wander around the house. If you hadn't guessed, this is the kitchen table at Standen.
A visit to de Molen is a totally unique experience and a must do if you're passing through Foxton
De Molen was officially opened in April 2003. Built to plans/specifications obtained from the Netherlands, it is a full scale replica of a traditional 17th Century Dutch flourmill.
Tour the upper levels and working parts of de Molen. Stone ground flour, milled here in de Molen, is available for purchase along with Dutch groceries, (including licorice, Dutch cheeses and croquettes).
De Molen and The Dutch Oven are run by The Foxton Windmill Trust Inc. which is a non-profit organisation. All proceeds go into the upkeep and running of de Molen.
They mill flour using millstones in the traditional manner.
The traditional stone-ground flour mill, De Molen, has been out of order since storms in late February took panels off its blades and exposed rotting timber.
It sustained further damage in high winds this week
Foxton
Tourism is a major part of the District and Foxton's economy. Foxton is the home of NZ's horse-drawn tram plus a sound and movie museum; flax stripper museum; dutch windmill and more
Foxton is a thriving township with local and national branded businesses.. Surrounded to the North, East and South by agricultural and pastoral farming, Foxton also supports a number of commercial and service industries and an all-weather racecourse. The main shopping area, and attractions, are situated one block from SH1 adjacent to the Manawatu River Loop on the northern bank of the Manawatu River.
The last remaining of five water powered flour mills in Garfield County, WA. The mill was built in 1878 and all the original equipment remains in place, although no longer operating. The current owners serve meals in return for donations to pay for upkeep and improvements.
view of the western part (from the garden) of the Walewscy Palace in Walewice
Classicist building designed by Hilary Szpilowski or Stanislaw Zawadzki, built in 1773-1783 by Anastazy Walewski (chamberlain to King Stanislaw August Poniatowski); located on the Mroga River.
The palace is counted among the most interesting examples of classicist country seats in Poland, built at the end of the 18th century. The front faces east. It consists of a one-story rectangular main body and one-story side pavilions, also built on a rectangular plan, connected with the main body by communication galleries broken at right angles. The premise is based on the Palladian style, very popular in Poland in the second half of the 18th and first 19th centuries. From the front, the palace has a massive, four-column Ionic battered portico topped with a triangular pediment (tympanum) with the coat of arms of Pomian, the later owner Stanislaw Grabiński. From the garden there are two prominent extreme (side) risalits. Inside the palace, large representative halls with decorative brick fireplaces and elaborate furnishings were created, as well as spacious palace rooms. In one of the pavilions original painted wallpaper from the 19th century with mythological motifs has been preserved.
On May 4, 1810, the son of Napoleon Bonaparte and Maria Walewska, Alexander Colonna-Walewski, later French ambassador to Great Britain and foreign minister to Napoleon III, was born there. He also became heir to the estate, which he sold to Maria Walewska's brother, Teodor Łączyński, in 1831.
Much of the palace's charm is added by the perfect composition of the building with an extensive landscape park designed by Walerian Kronenberg. Original late Baroque and classicist sandstone sculptures depicting Mars, Venus, and Diana have been preserved there, as well as two hermits and an armed man in ancient costume.
In the mid-19th century, the palace and its estate passed into the hands of the Grabiński family of the Pomian coat of arms. The Grabinskis modernized and rebuilt the palace at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, established a stud farm for half-breed horses (Anglo-Arabians), developed the breeding of cockerel sheep (the only one in the country), a huge fish farm (on more than 100 hectares of ponds), a factory of potato flour and starch. The last owners of Walewice were papal chamberlain Stanislaw Bohdan Grabiński and his wife Jadwiga, née hr. Potocki, and after his death in 1930 their minor children Stanislaw Wojciech, Maria, Wladyslaw, Róża and Jan Grabiński. The palace still contains some of the furnishings and furniture from the last owners.
During World War II, on the night of September 9-10, 1939, the 17th Regiment of Wielkopolska Uhlans from Gniezno of the Wielkopolska Cavalry Brigade fought battles for the Palace and the village of Walewice during the Battle of the Bzura River.

Making donuts at home can be a delightful experience! Here's a basic recipe for classic fried donuts:
Essential Ingredients:
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
3/4 cup lukewarm milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for rolling)
Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
For Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, lukewarm milk, sugar, salt, butter, and egg. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.
Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Cut out donuts: Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out donuts and holes. Place them on a floured surface and let them rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.
Fry: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry donuts in batches, turning them once, until golden brown (1-2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
Glaze: Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and let them cool on a wire rack.
Enjoy your homemade donuts! 🍩

To me this is the more interesting side of Thompson's Flouring Mill. When I was back there windows were open and some were missing. Swallows perpetually darted through the air eating insects. The front of the building is painted nicely, but as you can see the paint on the rear is peeling. Definitely a Bates Motel vibe. Shooting in infrared light made it seem even more creepy.

The abandoned and derelict flour mill built in 1891, was purchased from the local shire for just $1 and more than $4 million put into the restoration and conversion to luxury accommodation.
For 120 pictures in 2020 #115 "Ways to weigh or measure", bakers frequently measure flour by weight, most home cooks measur it by volume. Here are both ways in one - a cup of flour on a kitchen scale. But I have to admit we almost never bake anything, so this flour went back in the canister to be used in the future to grace some onion rings or fried pickles.
Old Flour Sack Happy Vale Farms flour used to arrive in cotton sacks, at some place they changed to paper bags or boxes, this is an old one found in North Carolina.
