This Great Blue Heron wasn't concerned about fishing, it was bath time.

If you find yourself in a bad mood, go watch and photograph Burrowing Owls. They will put a smile on your face that will last a long time.

I was pleasantly surprised with my early morning steady hands since this was taken handheld. No flash either. The distance between Everglades National Park and the Miami beach shores is about 60 miles from where I was.

It is always a challenge to find owls. They stay tight to the tree and stay very still. Well this day a shaft of light from the setting sun revealed this guy. Challenging light and a narrow view made for what I thought was an interesting image.

A couple of days ago, I made a trip to Philippe Park In Safety Harbor, Florida, to bond with nature and take some landscape shots at sunset. When I arrived at the park, I walked around a bit without my camera to check out good landscape locations. I noticed a beautiful bird roosting in this elegant tree by the ocean's edge, and thought to myself, "I sure wish I had my camera with me, because I'm sure the bird will be gone by the time I return with my camera!"

Well, lo and behold, when I returned fifteen minutes later with my camera, the bird was still there. That was good luck! So I sat down close to the tree and set up my camera on the tripod. The bird probably just finished eating and was preening for a LONG time. I would whistle and clap my hands, causing the bird to look up and pose, and then resume its preening. I switched my camera to continuous shooting so I would not miss a good sequence of motion if it occurred. Eventually, the bird ruffled its feathers and spread out its wings. I thought I had some good shots there and decided to switch to 2 second delay to take some sharper shots without mechanical vibration.

I didn't realize it until later, but the bird was actually "posing" for me with spread wings during the 2 second delays; a few seconds later it took off into the glorious sky as the sun was starting to set over the horizon. A very lucky day!

This shot looks like it is monochrome, but actually I just backed off on the vibrance in Lightroom to reduce the color saturation. I also did minimal sharpening and noise reduction to avoid artifacts, with the drawback being the image is a bit "softer" than I would have liked. Wouldn't it be nice to have a 50 MP camera? :)

I found this Anhinga in the first few minutes on the first day of my Florida photo trip. As soon as I began to walk into Circle B the action began. So why do I love photographing in Florida?

Florida is an eternal Summer place, but if you seek and seek from November to December, on its many trails, you will probably find glimpses of Autumn. Colors that will show up for a few days, then disappear.

The trout must have been running this day as every feeding Osprey had one. The sky was a funky hazy blue color so I eliminated the blue to let the Osprey stand out against the grey. I like the effect.

There are two things that Honeymoon Island is know for, Osprey and Mosquitos. Bug spray allows you to actually concentrate on photographing the Osprey. Without it you are swatting like a madman. That said, it was a great day watching the osprey working on the nests and eating fish in the trees. And if this is not a sea trout please let me know.

To me Merritt Island is such a bitter/sweet place to shoot. Sweet in that there are usually plenty of subjects to shoot. Bitter in that its very difficult to get a low POV. This Reddish Egret was putting on a grand show but getting low to the waters edge was impossible. I would have loved to shoot this just off the top of the water. Dang.

In any way I wasn't imagining this image to be so colorful when I ran it through my HDR software. The colors were originally present, but dull. It was a dark shadowy pix and just a little tone mapping shows what it really looks like. It was a long exposure shot, sunrise at Fernadina Beach just north of Jacksonville. One of the most beautiful Islands in Florida.

This is a 24 megapixel image created with a 16 megapixel camera by stitching just 4 images together on the Editor. More megapixels is always better when you need to bring more details on an image. Thanks for the merge feature on most Photo editors, that allow you to create panoramas or a more megapixel image from old digital cameras, a saving feature for a poor photographer like me.

Technical Info: Olympus OM-D EM5, 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 @ 19mm, tripod, ISO: 200, Mode: Aperture priority, f/5.6, 1/3 sec, Stitch 4 images and edited on Photoshop CC.

One of my favorite birds to see while at Circle B Bar Reserve. Especially when you find them in a tree.
