The track passing the barn goes to Low Green House and as can be seen is waterlogged at its lowest point

This was taken from the Nidderdale Way long distance footpath between Pateley Bridge and the hamlet of Wath, which at this stage uses the the track of the disused Nidd Valley Light Railway

The barn can be seen on the flooded field 5 phots previous

Walking on water isn't just for Jesus!

It is just over twelve months ago that flooding, the aftermath of a extremely wet winter and spring, reached the plains on the lower parts of the Murray River system in NSW. It is a long process as the huge volume of water slowly makes it way down from the high country spilling out on to the vast flood plains. The floods are slow to rise and are slow to recede.

This is on my brother's farm in south western NSW and we are navigating a very wet and boggy track on a Kawasaki Mule, a small four wheel drive vehicle which are now quite common on farms. It becomes particularly boggy in this region due to the black clay soils so many back roads become impassable but not so for our trusty Mule!

This year, by contrast, our Bureau of Meteorology has forecast hotter and drier conditions under an El Nino weather pattern but so far it is still to emerge. Concern now is not about getting wet but maybe getting burned. We are yet to see.

A GWR 2-4-0 makes slow progress through four feet of flood water at Creech cutting,Somerset in 1894 as delighted children look on...this would completely stuff us in our technolological and risk averse era but the Victorians were made of sterner stuff and just carried on!,(plus the fact there were no track circuits then)

Over many years Walsall railway station has suffered from intermittent flooding problems.

Thunderstorms and torrential downpours leaving the track flooded threatened abandonment to Henlow’s Mini Derby heats on Sunday, but the rain relented to allow the meeting’s completion. Earlier races had been voided due to hare problems..Henlow 12th June 2016. Photo: Steve Nash ..

My two Granddaughters in the back!

The green lane through the gate has an old name - "Watery Lane." Today you can see why.

F40PHM--2 #200 Norman W Muelner pulls into the Downers Grove - Main Street station with an outbound train. The tracks on the east side of the station saw rising waters which resulted from a very heavy downpour that swamped the area less than an hour before this picture was taken.

As I was having lunch at the Giordano's just steps south of the Downers Grove - Main Street station, a heavy downpour enveloped the area. As a result, the tracks at the station filled with rainwater not long after the worse had passed. I am assuming that this is just runoff, but nevertheless, I found it very interesting to see a flooded trackbed. Thank God the water didn't cover the rails.
