On June 15, 2021 I posted an image of this bridge,,,calling it my favorite covered bridge. On Friday, June 18, 2021, a torrential downpour flooded the Sand Creek basin. A large tree damaged both sides of the bridge. I found out about the damage while eating lunch yesterday in Greensburg, Indiana, after photographing three covered bridges 40 miles north of the Westport bridge. I headed south and this is is the damaged south side of the bridge. Highway engineers believe the structure is sound and the sides can be repaired....again, timing is everything....

The other day I posted a tranquil scene on Yabba Creek in the Mary River Valley of SE Queensland. The road we were on lead from the small town of Imbil to Borumba Dam and follows the creek.

In this scene, you can see the effects of the February floods which were near enough records in this area. The wall of water that was smashing down this creek has knocked over the trees and scoured out the bank on the right hand side and also burst the banks. It looks quiet and pretty now but I cannot imagine what it was like at the height of the flood.

The flood of 2017 on Lee's Creek twisted the huge green painted steel beams that reinforced the Dover Bridge in northern Kentucky. They were removed and contractor Arnold M Graton who then temporary stabilized the bridge by supporting it internally. So far efforts to secure the needed million to million and a half dollars for repairs have failed.

Both of the I-Beams from beneath the bridge were bent beyond repair during the Lee's Creek Flash Flood of 2017. Hope the tourist boards find a money source for repairs. Amazing to see the power of this flood. This flood also damaged many privately owned concrete and steel bridges, still unprepared or replaced and visible if one drives up this small county road.

Taken through a gap in the locked gates.....Treasure Island fairground... silent and forlorn after severe flood damage when the River Severn burst its banks earlier in the year.

A 40+ foot wall of water came roaring through this area on Memorial Day. It may not look so devastating here (but it is)---trying to capture a sense of the beauty of the area along with the damage.

Searching continues for those still missing and lost in the flood. Our thoughts and prayers are with those families and with those effected by the floods.

Just below the wing dam.

These men came to help my brother and me to remove most of the furniture that was ruined in my home after the flood in September. Drake, the strapping young man on the left, is my nephew, and the fellow on the right is Connor, a good friend of Drake's. They moved mountains over the course of 2 days, and without them, my brother and I would never have been able to get all the heavy stuff out of the house.

Although much of the furniture, like this desk, didn't LOOK very damaged, since this was a level 3 blackwater event, which means that there was sewage and chemicals in the water that could literally kill you, there is no way to save wood furniture that absorbs that water, so over 90% of my furniture was lost, and about 80% of my other belongings. I suffered probably $70,000 worth of building damage, and $50,000 in contents. The worst part was watching furniture like my 1907 upright piano being loaded into a garbage truck. So many things are only memories now.

After 2 months, I still don't know how much the insurance company is going to give me to restore my house. Once I know, I will be able to start work, or file for supplemental payments. What an ordeal! It will take months to be back to normal, maybe longer.

I have a Go Fund Me account to help with expenses. This has already cost me thousands, and donations can make the difference between whether I can refurnish my home or not. A mold remediation will be mandatory, and insurance doesn't cover it. If you can help, please do. God bless!

Lane markers in Camden swimming centre hide the fact that the water in this pool is brown from the flood waters.

As the flood waters recede no doubt the clean up operation will be intense and time consuming for all concerned.

Pacific National intermodal 7PM5 races through Wirrappa and across the repaired flood damage with NR17-85 in charge on Sept 4, 2023. The first 5 wagons (freight cars) after the crew van are very unattractive, utilitarian triple-deck car carriers.

Photo taken in January 2023 however I drove down this concrete road in late 2021.

Whole slabs of concrete roadway have been lifted and moved downstream by the record March 2022 floodwaters which flowed downstream and devastated Lismore.

It's hard to imagine that the road will ever be repaired given the extent of the damage.

It's also equally likely that Casino will be stuck with the mess as very likely no government money will be allocated to remove the unsightly concrete slabs all along the river.

SCT's 7PG1 with SCT006-CSR021 and 43 platforms glows the morning desert sun as it rolls through the spectacular Wirrappa landscape on Sept 4, 2023. The train is crossing over the rebuilt right of way badly damaged by severe storms and flooding. The train was once known as "The Great White" due to its predominantly white locomotives and rolling stock. These days, it's almost "The Great Grey" with the effects of a new grey colour scheme plus the ravages of graffiti and desert dust.

UPDATE at the Rookery; June 2, 2015:

Today I spoke with two witnesses to the flooding at the rookery (Parks Dept. employee and next-door business employee). Both stated that Bird Island was completely underwater on Memorial Day except for the treetops (i.e., the floodwaters reached half-way up the trees on the island or higher). The bridge/road adjacent to the pond was also underwater. Straight-line winds were recorded at 70 mph.

The Wisconsin & Southern ran a two-car passenger special from Spring Green, WI to Madison on November 2, 2018. The passengers were given an up close view of repairs made to the Prairie Subdivision after major flood damage following torrential rains in August.

High water mark from previous flooding. The premises are used for small businesses and storage for boats etc.

When I was up north last month I noticed some of the flood damage from June 2022 when Yellowstone National Park experienced a 500-year flood event. I knew from the news coverage that the damage was horrible, but hadn't seen the damage myself yet. I noticed this green canoe wrapped around a tree way above river line. In this one you an see how far below the river is from the canoe (middle right side).

Flood damage caused to the Bridge House Guest House and Sonia’s Bistro which fell victim to Storm Ciara in February 2020, when flood water smashed into the building causing its corner to collapse into the River Teviot.

I did nab the ML passing the Columbus depot but the light was marginal. A quick turnout on the old highway provided this pleasing view. Flaherty Flat along the Yellowstone River is a fertile and level area but not without its challenges. 2022 saw damaging flooding along the Yellowstone from the park through south central Montana. Above the 4306 is a shed undercut and damaged by the rampaging river. I always like incorporating the Yellowstone into views on the eastern MRL. The rivers 692 miles comprise the longest free-flowing river in the continental US. September 7, 2023.

The flood lines divide the siding on this wooden bridge. The steel beams that support the structure were bent during the flood of two months ago. Now unusable and unsafe. Hope it will be saved.

Jerry and I went to Big Oak Tree State Park and Big Oak Lake yesterday. The board walk (made of steel...hehehe) had just recently reopened after the park had been flooded when the Bird's Point Levee was blown this spring. It smelled bad...and there was a lot of damage to the walk. Most of the park is still closed.

The lake was low from the dry summer. We decided not to try to fish there, but tried our luck in the borrow pit surrounding the lake. The only bites we got were from mosquitos! After only a few minutes, we ran for the truck!

We did see a lot of big trees, though. And we had a good time.
