Week 20
(Teleidoscope - Week #17 "Mythology")
So I said a couple weeks back that I had created a couple images for a Theory of Knowlegde project that describe language through the medium of music and tie those interpretations of the songs to a visual aid. I choose to display my own pictures, with the songs that inspired them. I loved being able to show my pictures and add the soundtrack to it while looking at them, but my favorite part was seeing others share their favorite songs and they're personal connection with each song.
This image was based on my good friend Serena's project :) Serena is one of the most original, open minded, free spirited, wanderlust filled, artistic, and just plain whimsical people I know. Her music project reflected exactly that, with her description and interpretation of the song "Float On" by Modest Mouse being my favorite. She said it reminded her of jellyfish, and how they just float along and let the water push them without care. The song reminds her that in tough times, everything will be ok and we'll continue to float on. I've included her music choices below :)
Frederic Chopin - Nocturne In E Flat Major, Op.9 No.2

I also chose to do this image for the Teleidescope theme of "Mythology" because Medusa is another word for jellyfish, and they are scientifically catigorized in the Subphylum Medusozoa :)

Just got back from Puebla mexico where I was teaching a photography and photoshop seminar, it went really well!
We had about 10 people at the seminar, and over 3 days went over a lot of photoshop, as well as did a photo shoot with a few models, and edited the images we shot.
Thanks to everyone involved
Shall we float away all the way to the stars?

“Still, what I want in my life is to be willing to be dazzled -
to cast aside the weight of facts
and maybe even
to float a little
above this difficult world."
They say that "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home".
8 Years since doing my first 365, and that statement rings ever true! It feels so great to wake up in the morning with a plan and a purpose again! I've found the last few weeks that I would wake up and hazily judge whether it was a "bad day" (>order pizza) or a good day (>do some work). Now, it's a "when the hell do I find
time to do my 365 today" day! :D
I'm shooting a wedding in a couple of hours, and the reality of how time consuming 365 is hitting hard! Yesterday I managed to fit in dinner with a lovely friend and the gym AND 365 but weddings are a WHOLE NEW LEVEL GUYS
RIGHT enough typing - I must fly! ;) Pun totally intended
floating on the fleeting moment

Recently, I did a hike to the Zion Narrows located in Zion National Park in Utah. It was not my first time in the Narrows but it was the first time in 8 years that I had been back. It was also my first time back to the Zion Narrows as a photographer.
It is definitely a different experience hiking the Narrows as a photographer. As a photographer one notices all the little things that can make or break a photo while hiking in the Narrows. For instance, the indirect and reflected light in this scene is one such example. When I was not a photographer, I would have probably shot this scene when direct light flooded this area of the Narrows. It would have resulted in harsh and unpleasing lighting. Even the wave motion in the water would not have been possible in bright and harsh light because I would need to use a faster shutter speed. As a photographer, I look for softer light especially in slot canyons. This can often result in magical reflected light and surprising results. Luckily, my friend Mark and I barely made it to this location before direct light flooded this part of the Narrows. If we would have arrived just five minutes later this scene would have looked totally different.

Sea otters, whose numbers were once estimated at 150,000–300,000, were hunted extensively for their fur between 1741 and 1911, and the world population fell to 1,000–2,000 individuals living in a fraction of their historic range. A subsequent international ban on hunting, sea otter conservation efforts, and reintroduction programs into previously populated areas have contributed to numbers rebounding, and the species occupies about two-thirds of its former range.

Continuing my theme of Autumn leaves, I spotted these in a large puddle, Glad I had my polariser on which worked well to bring out the earthy tones of the leaves.
I put on a vignette to isolate the brighter leaves in the center. just goes to show there is a photograph to be had even in a puddle.
We have been down to Halnaker Windmill and the tree tunnel this morning to see if there is any Autumn colour, I must say there is not a lot of Autumn colour there yet, more when I post an image in a day or so.
The light wasn't the best, the location is so-so, but just wanted to try some really wide angle here. 8 vertical frames.
After a pretty disastrous winter due to high winds and storms, St. Andrews By The Sea seems ready for the annual onslaught of tourists which had taken place for many decades. If these buoys were here previously, I never noticed them before. This was my Fathers' Day trip which just took place yesterday due to family schedules. It was a gorgeous day, with a large conference in town as well as your run of the mill tourists. Found a sandwich baggie full of seaglass, and had a very interesting conversation with a couple older gentlemen who metal detect in the bay. They showed me an 18th century Spanish coin, and a 19 century English coin they had found that day. So cool.
