This isn't a shot I would normally put on Fliickr as it was just a rushed shot before it flew off, but these flies are quite rare in Southern England with only a few sightings.

I'm working on my Outra banda (the other side of the river Tejo, facing Lisboa) photo book. So it's time for some some shots taken from east to west, from Barreiro to Seixal, Cacillhas and Caparica.

Shown here are litle fisherman's huts - which are generally used to store fishery gear.

Shot during a fab day with our local Fliickr friends Ana (from Barreiro) & Manuela (from Cacilhas).

Week 12 / 52 is "childhood memories". This one goes back farther than I care to admit. Growing up in the 50s & 60s you just weren't cool if You didn't convert your bicycle to a "Motor Cycle" by placing a playing card in the spokes. Now I think I'll take er out for a spin!

Ong pagoda(Quan de temple) is the Chinese people`s ancient pagoda with the largest scale in Binh Thuan,it is located at Duc Nghia quarter,Phan Thiet City.According to the pagoda`s system of disffused and inherited documents and epoch impinted on the bar of the central chamber top with Chinese sentence:¨" Thien Kien Danh Dan Nien Trong Dong Kiet Tao ",this pagoda was establishes in November Canh Dan year 1770 (The Tiger one).

Its architectual overall since the day of establishment has been the Chinese people`s big temple built to worship Quan Cong.Located on a coparatively large area,this pagoda has got the Chinese people`s specific art decoration and architectural style with rows of linking houses making the form of the word "Kim".The system of poles and rafters have been carved and sculptured very painstakingly and sharply,partly the same as the techniques of carving and sculpture applied in the Vietnamese people`s temples.

Something strange happened last week that I want to share and I would like to hear your views. (If you don't want to read on, then that's fine - and I hope you like this picture taken at Birling Gap on England's South Coast).

I came across a new group, run by someone whose work I have often admired (although we've never been contacts) and so I applied to join. I read the group rules which thankfully were very simple and seemed fair enough: "Only one image daily and absolutely no re-posting. if you violate these rules you be banned!" So I sent in my email request to join and soon after I received this Fliickr Mail:

Now isn't this strange? If that's a rule, why not include it in the Group Rules? Why add it separately by email? And why demand that people have to comment on as many pictures as possible already in the pool? Or are these silly questions??????????

There was no way that I was going to agree to this - my priority is my personal contact list and if I have time to spare then it's to my contacts' pictures that I go - and so my choice was not to join the group. I didn't reply. End of story. But then I got a message saying I'd been admitted to the group anyway...

I am sure that the vast majority of people in this group have joined in good faith and share the same good objectives and desires as everyone else. But I do hope that the rogue Admins (in that and any other group) get their act together because their behaviour is bringing their groups and thus their members into disrepute. And that is unforgiveable because their members are generally great people pursuing their hobby as best they can with the support of friends. The last thing they need is a silly Admin.

Perhaps we need an Admin's Code of Conduct!! :-)

By the way - and I want to emphasise this strongly - I am NOT moaning about gaming groups. I am moaning about bad Admins! Please do not think I am getting in on the other fights - they bore me and too often become rude and offensive.

I hear Flickr's turning 4 today!

Some well wishing and gifts are in order then...

Now I know Flickr can be a little bit disappointing sometimes, but come on guys... It's just like any child - it can hit on our nerves at times, but it's always adorable... and always ours!..

I joined Flickr quite instinctively, not really knowing what it was all about, on May 16, 2007.

Back then, as a former traditional photographer, I actually didn't know a thing about digital photography, let alone photo manipulation and Photoshop.

I remember now I had taken a picture with a borrowed SONY compact camera and I was playing with it on the PICASA - again without really knowing what and how I was doing it and also not knowing what I wanted to do either... Somehow I liked the result and that was the very moment I got infatuated with digital photography. I also needed to show my "achievement", which had a deep mystical meaning to me too!

And that's actually how I joined Flickr as this was the very first photo I uploaded on Flickr!

Very very soon I got infatuated with Flickr too, I upgraded to a pro account, bought my first serious DSLR camera and the rest is (personal) history, I 'd be tempted to say...

10 months later, on Flickr's birthday, here I am again, uploading a re-edited version of that first photograph - a much more mature one, I hope, as I now know (just) a couple of things about editing, cropping, color manipulation etc.!

And I feel it is only just and fair to dedicate this to Flickr, on the occasion of its birthday, and to the people behind Fliickr as well!

Despite the occasional shortcomings, Flickr is still the greatest Photography site - an integrated experience in itself - and I feel like saying heartful thanks to them for being there for all of us and for giving me personally the chance to mature as a photographer!

Happy Birthday, Flickr! This - quite possibly, my most personal creation ever - is dedicated to you!

El muflón europeo es un animal bastante grande que puede pesar hasta 50 kilos. Se asemeja a una oveja estilizada, de patas y cuello proporcionalmente más largos. La lana es mucho más corta y de color pardo oscuro, volviéndose blanquecina en morro, ojos, mitad inferior de las patas, glúteos y vientre. Los machos son más grandes y robustos que las hembras y están dotados de grandes cuernos que se curvan a ambos lados de la cabeza; las hembras, en cambio, no presentan cuernos o los tienen de muy escasa longitud. Uno de los muchos animales que he tenido la suerte de pillar en La Sierra de Cazorla.

這是隻鳳頭蒼鷹的雛鳥，已離巢並開始練習自己覓食，拍攝當天便已見牠自己捕獲了小老鼠、蜥蝪等食物，年紀還小的牠，每次站定一個地方，長則站約30分鐘，其中各種姿勢包括展翅、搔癢、擺頭...動作盡出，讓大家不得不斷地按下快門，瞧牠站在高枝頂端所展現的氣勢，雄糾糾而氣昂昂，真是「人小志氣大」哦！

June 7, 2009 _ I took this favorite 1970s French bike out for a spin today. Since the last photo uploaded to this Fliickr set I recently changed the SPD pedals for MKS Sylvan Touring pedals so I could just ride with my canvas Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes, or most any other casual shoes I happened to find on my feet. For the flatter shoe soles I dropped the seat post (also the stem) just a bit. I had forgotten how smooth this bike is - a wonderful riding bike! - The Simplex retro-friction shifters and the Super LJ 4000 rear derailleur perform beautifully.

Total weight of this bike as shown in this current photo is exactly 24.0 pounds [10.9 kilograms], but it really feels much lighter.

I was standing on the sidewalk trying to figure out why I was hearing a diesel engine and pinging noises..I then realized that this was the answer to my question.

This is one of the most unique pizza delivery vehicles I've ever seen

This one is straight out of the camera.

After uploading it to flickr I see that the highlights are darker. The dress for example is much darker. Even if I save the image from fliickr and view it in the same software as the original it is darker. This is the first time I have seen that happen. Odd behavior it is.
