My very own personal pan pizza, meat lover's style from Pizza Hut. Took the kids there for lunch today since Sean had a coupon for a free personal pan pizza that he got for being a great reader at school.

My bag from Burger King today at lunch, with the official rules for handling "bagglers" -- y'know, those fries that fall out of their cardboard home and into the bottom of the bag.

"Bagglers are fair game. The first to open the bag and retrieve the baggler gets to eat the baggler."

This made me laugh. Really. Sometimes it's just the simple things in life. Like bagglers.

And by the way, in my experience, no one, and I mean no one provides more bagglers than Burger King.

This is one of those McDonald's where, when you use the drive-thru, you end up speaking with someone in North Dakota. That said, when I went thru for lunch and took this photo, it was all local - the guy at Window #2 is the guy who took my order. In fact, that call center idea might have been canceled altogether for all I know -- I go to McD's 1-2 a month and it's been a couple months since my order was taken via the call center. Food's the same regardless ... gotta love the Dollar Menu when you're hungry and broke. :-)

Spent the night working on the U2 Fan Survey results while keeping an eye on the Rose Bowl game between USC and Texas. Ultimately, the football won because the game totally distracted me from work -- one of the best college football games I've ever seen. Texas 41, USC 38

That little TV is about 20 years old, and is only there so I can watch VHS tapes in the office. I didn't think I'd get any reception, but ABC came in loud and clear over-the-air -- no cable, no DirecTV, just old school TV watching.

Let's see ... that's the current issue of MacWorld on my desk, and the top book in the pile on the left is The U2 Reader, which I'm currently re-reading.

I've worked at OWT for almost 9 years now. Once upon a time, we had an old TV that managed to get a pretty good off-air picture on the local CBS affiliate. And every March, that TV would make its way to my desk so I could watch the NCAA tourney (my favorite sports event) while I ... cough ... worked. (I have a very understanding boss.) That TV died a couple years ago.

Last year, crazy coincidence, I got sick and stayed home from work for the first two days of March Madness.

This year, suspecting that perhaps I was faking it last year (I wasn't - really!), my boss and one of my co-workers hooked up this big monitor to a receiver and planted it right outside my cubicle. No excuse to stay home today or tomorrow!

The fallen soldier's memorial at Flat Top Park in West Richland, Wash. The plaque at lower right says:

THE FINAL TRIBUTE

The fallen soldier's temporary grave marker was the inverted rifle placed in the ground by its bayonet with the helmet, boots and dog tags - the final salute for the soldiers who lost their lives.

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

Had a parent/teacher conference for S first thing in the morning. Didn't seem right shooting a photo in his classroom while meeting with his teacher, so took this one from the hallway afterward.

Target dept. store, lunchtime.

When I bring a camera into a store, it feels like reverse shoplifting. And the whole time I'm in there, my hand is fidgeting in my pocket, which only makes it look like I really am shoplifting. Are you like that? Have you ever brought a camera into a store?

We had one of the all-time windstorms in West Richland early this evening. The backyard fence will require more repairs. At one point, while driving home past an open dirt field, the wind blew so much dirt across the street that I couldn't see out the window for about 3 seconds. Very scary.

So I grabbed the camera and drove around looking for a cool photo of the nasty weather. But I quickly learned that wind is not easy to photograph. I took a few shots, but they're awfully boring ... gray/brown skies, dust blowing, etc.

So I killed that and went for Plan B, which was a photograph of the most colorful thing(s) I could find inside.

Today is our first wedding anniversary... We planned to do some jumping shots today, but unfortunately Amy got injured... So we just celebrated with Austrian food.

On the south side of I-84, just west of Boardman, Oregon, there's a forest of poplar trees planted by the Potlatch company that runs for a couple miles along the freeway. (more info. from Potlatch's web site)

It's fascinated me every time I've driven by it and, finally, on the last day of our mini-vacation, I was able to stop and shoot a couple photos. There are so many trees in such close quarters that even the brightest sunlight can't get through.

This one looks better large.

I took the kids to see Curious George today. Cute movie. Kids liked it. I liked that they stayed true to the relatively simple animation style of the books - basic lines, primary colors, etc. But unlike the Pixar movies I love, this one didn't make any attempt to keep things interesting for Dad. No jokes that only the adults would understand. Simple storyline, built only with kids in mind.

We arrived at Flat Top Park tonight for Sean's practice and found a memorial service taking place in the big field between the baseball diamond and the playground where my daughter likes to play. Sean went to practice and I let my daughter use the playground, but told her to be as quiet as possible out of respect for the people attending the service. She did a great job.

The service was for a local man who, I gathered, recently died in the Middle East. His name was Michael, and I believe he was in the U.S. Navy. What I heard of the service was very moving, and it was awkward to shoot photos there. I didn't go out of my way to get position -- this the from the spot where I was keeping an eye on Tara. A bugler played "Taps." There was a 21-gun salute. Veterans of various branches of the military spoke privately with the family. There were parts of the service where I wasn't able to / didn't want to lift up my camera and take a photo.

Regardless how you feel about the war, the men and women fighting -- and their families -- deserve our respect and support, especially in times like this.

I have a handful of other photos. If, by chance, anyone from the family of the serviceman who died sees this photo and wants copies of my pictures, I'll gladly do so. Feel free to contact me through Flickr.

In honor of the Super Bowl champ Pittsburgh Steelers (man, that's hurts to type), this unassuming building is Kimo's, a local sports bar/restaurant owned by Steeler's defensive lineman Kimo Von Oelhoffen. Kimo married a local girl, still has relatives in this area, and I believe he and his wife live here (at least in the off-season).

This building used to be one of my favorite local restaurants, but I haven't been there since Kimo bought it and it opened up as "Kimo's."

The waiting area of the new building where my dentist works -- the nicest medical-related facility I've been in.

I wanted to shoot a photo while I was in the exam room, but the opportunity never presented itself -- they have a nice, 19" flat-panel TV above you so can watch while getting your mouth worked on. Makes the whole experience quite pleasant!

This bridge probably has a name, but I don't know it. Took this on the drive home from Seattle. It crosses the Columbia River right at the western edge of the Hanford nuclear site.
