Wikipedia: The northern flicker or common flicker (Colaptes auratus) is a medium-sized bird of the woodpecker family. It is native to most of North America, parts of Central America, Cuba, and the Cayman Islands, and is one of the few woodpecker species that migrate. Over 100 common names for the northern flicker are known, including yellowhammer (not to be confused with the Eurasian yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)), clape, gaffer woodpecker, harry-wicket, heigh-ho, wake-up, walk-up, wick-up, yarrup, and gawker bird. Many of these names derive from attempts to imitate some of its calls. It is the state bird of Alabama.

Conservation status: Least Concern

El tema de esta semana (6 de Mayo) es "Capullos de Flores".

The theme for this week (on May 6) is "Flower Buds".

A second family of Northern Flickers has been showing up at the suet feeder. These are even younger than the first three, as they have none of the adult colouring at all yet. The father tried to show them how to feed from the suet, but they were only interested in getting him to feed them. There's a video here that shows what he has to contend with.

There were three Flickers chasing each other through the trees out front. This one landed down in the next door neighbors lawn and had a snack in between the games. :-)

for my dear flickers Maka and Richard:)

remember? that evening was the beginning ...:)

As you can see there is a pecking order even in birds... The Flicker is larger so the little Starling has to wait for the larger bird to finish before it can have a chance at the feeder... This shot was taken from my kitchen window, last winter !!!

I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to view, fave or comment on my photo. It is very much appreciated.

Northern Flicker.....

My backyard. No crop. No post processing. Full frame.

I took advantage of a sunny morning today and drove out to Montana de Oro. I parked by the Ranch House and was sitting and sipping my coffee when I noticed two birds chasing each other around. That got my attention! I quickly got out my camera and tried to capture the action. They flew up several times in a very aggressive manner.
