These 'flat paintings' by Pablo Picasso are on show in Museum Voorlinden. In the first comment, you can read my review in Dutch.

"Improvements have been coming so quickly that the past is being lost to the rising generation, and it can be preserved only by putting it in a form where it may be seen and felt."

-- Henry Ford (American industrialist, business magnate, and the founder of the Ford Motor Company who is credited as a pioneer in making automobiles affordable for middle-class Americans through the system that came to be known as Fordism)

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~Jeremiah 29:11

Dayna and 30's Rod

The wall is of brick, and has been given an irregularly-shaped area of parge coat at its base. The nonparged brick areas are painted a yellowish pink. The parged areas are painted pink.

Areas of dark pink are present along the boundary between the yellowish pink brick areas and the pink parged areas.

I almost became slightly tearful at the cuteness of these, and the thoughtfulness of their placement, in Rochester. Almost!

Give me a city that is totally dominated by these kinds of walls: early 20c structural clay tile with brick areas, painted whatever colors in matte paint, no doors or windows anywhere.

Revell 40 Ford Pickup. 1/24 scale. This is a re-issue of an old Monogram kit. This kit was part of the Early Iron series back in the early 1970s. Paint is a mix of Tamiya X-4 Blue and XF-2 Flat White, airbrushed. This kit comes with really nice woodgrain decals. Built September / October 2012.

An example of fiddly fun painting model airplane pieces. Monogram's Mosquito is based on rather flawed drawings, and dated to when one piece of black plastic served as the top of the bomb-bay, floor of the cockpit and nose compartment. The bombs are 3 pieces, left and right or top and bottom, and the tail ring, also black plastic.

Here's a photo of the real thing, from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Mosquito#/media/File:R...

To start then, the interior of British military airplanes in WWII was painted a distinctive light gray-green which was fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, etc. proof. The Mosquito fuselage and wing were plywood sandwich construction, so the protective paint was a very good idea. The inside of the landing gear wells were the bottom of the wing, so that needs protection too. The engine nacelle is actually aluminum, but the protective paint, probably over a primer, works well on aluminum. Like the interior of the stressed-skin Spitfire, Beaufighter, etc. and the Lancaster and Halifax bombers.

Next up in the bomb-bay, the self-sealing fuel tanks of the Mosquito were hung from the roof of the bomb bay, which was, of course, actually the lower surface of the wing. The self-sealing (raw rubber) material was protected by a dark red paint, so 4 dark red rectangles. I painted what might be piping yellow, and straps holding the tanks gray, with some light blue-gray fittings / plackards

There are racks with release mechanisms for the bombs, I chose to paint them black, but fuel proof green might also be correct.

The bombs themselves are several pieces: The front is cast/machined steel, painted green, filled with high explosive. Green, red and white rings were painted around the bomb casing indicating what it was filled with. Then the bombs were shipped by train and truck to an airfield, where they were piled up in dispersed bunkers, or sometimes left outside, perhaps under a tarp. So that green paint that protects the steel got weathered, unevenly. The tail and fins are stamped sheet-metal, also painted green, but arrived in a protective box and not left lying around to weather.

A fuse is screwed into the front just before it was mounted in an airplane.

I hand painted these walls with flat and semi-gloss paint. I love the results!

A FLAT Black Avalanche

The hottest thing going right now has to be the revision of the “FLAT” look. Gone are the days of “the higher the gloss the better the paint job”, now everybody iwants to see who can get the FLATTEST. Well as you can tell by this Avalanche we have flat down pat at HARD Lifestyle. This truck debuted at SEMA 2007 and was in the Alsa booth showcasing Alsa’s Flat Clear. This baby sure got some serious attention. When Jeff Mersey said “We are going FLAT!” he really meant FLAT…

Hey Jeff are you sure we couldn’t get this truck just a little lower?….

The federal documentation of the "Historic Sixth Street Business District" from the 1980s calls this building (308 6th St) the "Jacob and Charlotte Schad Building" and the "Schad Building," and says it was built as a saloon with living quarters upstairs. The Wisconsin Historical Society's Architecture and History Inventory says it was built "as a saloon for Charles Madory, who lived upstairs," and also refers to it as "Christmas Manor" without explanation.

I get emotionally and physically exhausted when I encounter discrepancies like these. These sources agree that the building is from 1873, at least. The year 1873 is famous for its panic.
