Macro Monday: #Jagged
Size of the frame: 1,8 x 1,8 cm / 0,7 x 0,7 inches
Flatearthers, this is for you: Seven flat suns rise above Flatmountains in Jagged Country, illuminating another beautiful Monday at the peak of unimaginativeness. Or simply another "too many choices, not enough time, but can't skip, either" theme, and another Sunday rather spent in the sunshiny park happily snapping away instead of doing my homework and spend it taking MM captures. Well. I took many captures, of different things, of the sea shell I got on a holiday in Kroatia when I turned 4 (and my Dad had told me then that I can hear the sound of the sea when I hold it to my ear... I can still hear it - or is it tinnitus?), but what looked jagged turned into soft round shapes in close-up. More captures of this or that, and in the end I couldn't decide which. So here you go. Found in my kitchen (where else). Those jaggedy jags ("Yakety Yak!") which look rather soft in the capture, are actually pretty nasty and sharp-edged.
Please see the first comment, now that would have been perfect for "Jagged" ;-)
A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!
OK. I really love this piece, It's probably my favorite ATC I've done, and probably the most difficult one I've done, (This is actually the 3rd and final attempt), and it's definitely the one I'm the most proud of. I'm kind of sad to see it go! :( Even though this is a teeny tiny piece, there's a lot going on here, so I'll try to explain the concept.
All of my pieces over the last 7-8 years involve postage stamp formats commemorating "celebrities/famous people". For example, Britney Spears isn't really famous, Medusa is, and then celebrating those mythic people and ideas in the form of commemorative postage stamps. The concept started as wood block prints but for the last year or so I've been doing them as embroideries. It's a deliberate choice playing on the idea of "spinning a tale" or "following the thread of a story."
So the theme for this swap was "Nautical" and I thought of concept of ships disappearing over the horizon and how that started to prove the idea of a spherical earth, or the fear of falling off the edge of the earth and "here there be monsters" and so forth. So I thought it be kind of funny to do a stamp celebrating The Flat Earth Society. How consistently in the face of basic observation they are CONVINCED the earth is flat. 3000+ members worldwide convinced!

And how that seemed hauntingly topical in todays climate. So anyway, "Zetetic Astronomy" is their contribution to the long list of fakey-made-up pseudo-science that seems to be making a strong comeback. Anyway, sorry to be so long winded.
***Please also understand that this is not any kind of attack on anyones personal beliefs (except for FlatEarthers) or faith. Everyone's entitled to their opinions and personal truths, I'm just assuming 99.99999% of us can agree that the world is round, and it would never even occur to most of us to debate that, just like we wouldn't seriously debate if the moon was made of cheese, or that 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs.
So, the Sun inside the clouds here on Earth should in theory burn the whole place down right? Well, not so if the Earth was flat and if the Earth's flat then what else have "they" or should I say the gatekeepers of knowledge been lying about? This should not be happening and it should definitely not be so small. But here it is and I can't explain it to you, someone needs to explain why the Sun is in the clouds. ⛅❓ @ufosightingsfootage #ufosightingsfootage #ufosfootage #suninclouds #sunincloud #thesun #sun #sunshine #whyissuninclouds #ufo #realufo #thesunisinacloud #nibiru #planetx #flatearth #theflatearth #theearthisflat #fourcornersofearth #conspiracytheory #flatearther #flatearthers #realflatearth #ufodisclosure #aliendisclosure #ufosarereal #ufologyresearch #ufology - www.ufosightingsfootage.uk/2019/04/explain-how-the-sun-ca...
"There is nothing in Suffolk to compare with the timber-framed houses of Lavenham", said Pevsner. Indeed, the whole village is crammed with them. There are many who claim to dislike this kind of thing, sneering "twee", or "chocolate boxy", and Lavenham is picturesque in a way we have been taught to regard as ridiculous. If we enjoy such places we are automatically on the defensive about it.
You won't find anything quite like this outside England ...and that's the real trouble. It's because they are such a symbol of Englishness that we despise them. The self-hatred of the English, now incorporated into State ideology, is a comparatively recent thing, psychologically absolutely abnormal. It is rooted, I think, in some kind of death-wish. Where will it all end I wonder. Those who live longest will see most.
The two bridges across the Mersey at Runcorn, seen up-close from the Cheshire bank on Saturday 4th October 1969. It's an extraordinary thing, when you think of it, that the Victorians should think it natural to build a railway bridge in the semblance of a castle ...all embrasures, crenelles and machicolations. From the railway, in certain states of the light, back in the days when the whole structure was black with soot, the susceptible passenger might have fancied, as he passed beneath the great frowning barbican, that he was rushing into the very maw of hell. The road bridge, constructed according to strict mathematical principles, during an age that liked to think of itself as rational, would be unlikely to occasion such unsettling presentiments in the imagination of the rushing motorist ...late for an appointment to negotiate the export of chocolate-coated pork scratchings to Saudi Arabia.
It's been the misfortune of everyone now living to be born into the age that produced the second, rather than the first bridge. Yes, yes, I know all the stuff about child chimney-sweeps and the rest of it. But the age of rationale is so opposed to the realities of human nature that it can't possibly last. I shalln't live to see the end of it, but if I thought it could endure for ever I'd slash my wrists now.

"I'll park where I want 'til Jacinda comes begging", said convoy stalwart Steve of destiny Hamilton. Christchurch City Council are unable to respond. "None of our parking wardens has a head for heights", said a Council spokesperson who asked to remain anonymous : )
