As I first thought about patriotism, the idea that came to mind for a great picture was fireworks and flags considering the Fourth of July is right around the corner. As I considered a stronger meaning behind the word, I thought "what is the price we pay for freedom?" After some wandering and an incredible opportunity I came upon this shot which I feel truly expresses the price many pay for us to be free that sometimes get overlooked by the festivities and celebrations.
Anyone who knows me, knows I like taking photos of flags, esp. the US Flag. And I love taking photos of our public art - the bigger the better - trying to find a perspective that accentuates the piece, while giving it context without too much detraction from surroundings.
The new art piece on the side of the old Beloit Iron Works was something I had to try ASAP. This is my first attempt at taking photos of it. I can't really decide which one works the best so you get to see them all...
This is made from hardwood patterns used to cast paper machinery parts in the old Beloit Corp/Beloit Iron Works foundries. I machined a lot of parts made from some of these very patterns in the 21 years I worked as a machinist in this same building.
Happy Veterans Day to all who served! While visiting Savannah, Georgia, recently, I was impressed by how patriotic the city is - US flags were everywhere. I found this image to be quite pretty on a beautiful Sunday morning! See my blog at www.digitalladysyd.com/?p=3308 for post-processing info.
I've been busying myself on these rainy days putting together a new website to blow my own photographic trumpet.
If you have a few moments spare, please pop over to Finnesse Fotografic and have a nose around.
Cheers!

Corner of the Ghent Town Hall. Ghent Townhall (Stadhuis) where one gets married. The building is hard to miss, as the detailed, ornate Gothic style in which the building was originally built is in stark contrast to the clean lines of the plainer Renaissance style, which the building was completed in. Inside is equally interesting with wooden vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, Wedding Chapel, a labyrinth, and more.
I'm not one for extreme patriotism, but as i was waling i saw it flapping and thought t would make for a good photo.

This isn't quite finished but it nearly there. The flags are Scotland, England, Wales, MA, TX, the USA flag and the Union Flag, all places we have lived or where born in.
Buddhist flag and Thai flag on the wind over the city.
