Continuation of the series.
As I wrote under the previous photo, now I put some photos taken during the Equality Parade.
I am very grateful to the nice people who allowed themselves to be photographed.
As I plunged into the crowd, I noticed this wonderful girl.
A colorful, rainbow flag and well-matched glasses. The most important, however, is a great smile and openness to other people, which creates a friendly atmosphere.
I loved the puzzle shapes of the branches, against a gorgeous blue sky, flying four flags from the Tulip Festival!
I have an uncle who was a marine during ww2 who fought in the pacific. This is a Japanese flag that he brought home, it has a few names written on it from some of the men that he served with. The names on the flag are:
Charles F Blanbo from Washington DC ( I think that's what the last name is, its kinda fuzzy)
Harold L Bachelor from Portland Oregon
Wm Roberts from Brookville Indiana
Frank Trusky from Akron Ohio
James E. Day from Huntsville Alaska
Douglas P. Searbrough from Monterey Tennessee
Harlan Bunnilk from Rockford Minnesota
John L. England from Jacksonville Texas
and my uncle Charles Fortney
I'm still trying to get more information like the unit he was in and if my uncle can remember where he got the flag from. He gave this to me about 25 or 30 years ago, it's been at my parents house till I asked them to send it to me.
Remembering the sacrifice of our fallen soldiers today, on Memorial Day. This series is from the Flags In ceremony with IGDC on Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery. You can see the main gallery on my @Livingwf8 Instagram account.
Downtown Granby, Vermont was bustling with activity when I took this photo. The three buildings shown are a chapel/church, a Post Office, and the Town Clerk's office. There also is a schoolhouse just beyond the bend in the road. The town was chartered in 1761, had a population of 52 in 1970, and exploded to 84 as of the 2017 census. Granby was the last of two towns in Vermont to be hooked up to the electric grid, which occurred in 1963.
I saw only one car in the half hour I was at this location. They smiled and waved as they passed. Most of the residents in these small rural towns throughout Vermont and New Hampshire are very friendly. However, that may not be the case in the bordering town of Victory, which I drove through to get to Granby. Victory has a population of 62 as of the last census, and is known for its decades long "Hatfield versus McCoy" type feuds, keeping the local county sheriff busy. Just Google "Victory Vermont feud" for details. Maybe they are friendly to outsiders like me though. I don't know, as I saw no one at all in my drive through Victory. I suspect they may be afraid to go outside. By the way, Victory was the second of the last two towns in Vermont to be hooked up to the electric grid.
This scene looked to me like it was out of the 1800's. Even the main road through town is unpaved. So I thought it was appropriate for a black and white photo.

By this time SS cars had recognized that their iconic symbol, SS, happened to use similar graphic design lettering to the notorious Nazi SS, so the company which had started with manufacturing Swallow side cars for motorcycles, and subsequently made sporty bodies for Austins and Morris small sedans, became Jaguar. The 3 and 1/2 liter straight 6 engine introduced in 1938 would actually get the SS 100 up to that speed.
Since the chassis and engine were supplied by Sir John Black's Standard auto company, he claimed that SS stood for Standard Swallow, though Sir William Lyon of SS Jaguar later stated that it stood for Super Swallow. 'Important' and useless details.................but interesting to a few of us weirdos.

The prairie plants are starting to bloom. I visited a beautiful privately restored prairie (Kessler Prairie now owned by the Bur Oak Land Trust) and found a pretty patch of Blue Flag Iris in a marshy area. They don't look a lot different than some Iris that can be found in many flower gardens this time of year, but there is something about finding them in the wild that is special.
The flag is a tricolour (green, white and pink) and was created in 1843.
This country lost autonomy in 1917 and after a referendum now is Canadian.
Terranova (in inglese: Newfoundland, in francese: Terre-Neuve; in gaelico canadese: Talamh an Èisg; in micmac: Ktaqmkuk)
Una curiosità e un mistero: i Micmac, o meglio i Mi'kmaq, (nativi americani presenti a Terranova) avevano una scrittura simile ai geroglifici egiziani !

Thimphu, Bhutan
In Bhutan, government and Buddhism go hand in hand. This is one of the country's primary government buildings, formerly a fortress, and houses a Buddhist temple and monk housing. You might note that the monks precede the flag and the soldiers...
