James Gaston and Ila Berta Roberts
James Gaston was born October 5, 1880 to James Daniel and Jennie Johnson Roberts. He was a farmer of his own land that his father had given to him. He died December 5th 1952.
Ila Berta was born June 29, 1901 to Atlas Pascal and Euphemia Easie Smith. She was a nurse at Fitman's Hospital until her marriage at which time she became a full time wife and mother. Ila died April 3, 1936 because of a ruptured appendix at the age of 35.
James Gaston Roberts and Ila Berta Smith were married in July of 1922. James was 21 years Ila's senior.
Eva has very few memories of her family life with her parents because she was so young when her mother died, but one memory she does have is her mother was going to spank her for misbehaving one day and when Eva said, “I'm sorry Mama.” The spanking was forgotten.
