Larval host plants:

2. Senna siamea -
3. Senna tora -
4. Bauhinia racemosa -
5. Butea monosperma - പ്ലാശ് (Leguminosae)
The larva is tiny when it hatches but soon grows, shedding it's skin changing into a bigger larva.
On Cassia fistula or Golden shower tree.
For the last two weeks we have had Catopsilia pomona or Lemon Migrant butterflies flying around our Golden shower tree. There are only a few flowers left but the butterflies are not interested in the flowers but only in finding a mate and laying their eggs on the young leaves of the plant.
You see the larva or caterpillars of these butterflies will live only these leaves in our garden. The adults feed on nectar from other flowers.
The eggs are laid on the underneath of a young leaf and on hatching the larva will eat a hole in the leaf, allowing it to pass through to the top where it can sit and feed close to the leaf vein. The colours nearly match and as the larva grows it darkens and moves up the stem to darker leaves matching the colour. They can be very difficult to see.
It seems that during the last wind storm that lasted 3 days, the larva were blown off the tree as I couldn't find them when I went back after the wind stopped. I'll be checking again as I did see quite a few eggs on leaves before the storm and we have more butterflies flying around the yard still.

Chico has always had an upper tooth that was deformed and grew in sideways. I knew it eventually would have to come out, but back in November it really started causing him problems. I took him to a dental specialty vet who found that the tooth had caused an oral-nasal fistula (a hole between his mouth and nasal cavity) So little Chico had to have major surgery. The hole was so big the vet had to remove several teeth in order to have enough tissue to close the hole. Luckily, Chico recovered very well - the only problem is that now that he's missing the upper teeth, his bottom tooth catches on his lip and is always showing. I think it adds to his spunky look. Before and after pictures, taken by the vet, are in the comments

Peltophorum dubium is a tree of the Leguminosae family, subfamily Caesalpinioideae. In Argentina and Paraguay it is commonly called yvyrá-pytá, ibirá puitá guazú, or ibirapitá, Yvyra Pytã, in Uruguay it is called the Artigas tree, or ibirapitá, and in Brazil Cana-fistula.
In Argentina and Paraguay, it is commonly called ybyrapytâ, ybyrá pytâ guazú, yvyrá-pytâ or Ibirá Pita. The name originates from the denomination in Guaraní language, in which Ybyrá is 'tree' or 'wood', pytâ is 'red', and guasu is 'big'; altogether it would be: 'big tree of reddish wood'.
In Portuguese, in Brazil, it is called: Cana-fistula, a name also used in Argentina, especially in regions near that country.
In Uruguay it is called, in addition to ybyra pytâ, Artigas tree, in relation to the eastern hero José Artigas, who went into exile in Paraguay until his death. At home in that country, he is remembered in stories drinking mate under a leafy specimen of this species. This name is reinforced by inhabiting this species in Uruguay, especially on the banks of the Uruguay River and its tributaries on the north coast, departments of Artigas, Salto and Paysandú.
It is unarmed, with foliage foliage, more or less straight shaft, and remarkable yellow summer bloom. It reaches a height of 20 to 40 m.
It is located in the center, south, and southeast of Brazil, in southeastern Bolivia, in central and eastern Paraguay, in northwestern Uruguay, and in northeastern Argentina.
In avenues of Buenos Aires and Montevideo it is seen forming large groups, being one of the trees in warm areas that can live in temperate climates, of the largest specimens. It would not be appropriate for streets because isolated grows with a lot of height and breaks off and falls easily in windy storms; Yes it is for parks when competition is required.
Golden Shower
Cassia fistula, known as the golden shower tree and by other names, is a flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. The species is native to the Indian subcontinent and adjacent regions of Southeast Asia. It ranges from southern Pakistan eastward throughout India to Myanmar and Thailand and south to Sri Lanka. In ancient Tamil literature, it is called கொன்றை (kondrai) and is closely associated with the Mullai (forest) region of Sangam landscape. It is the national tree of Thailand, and its flower is Thailand's national flower. It is also the state flower of Kerala in India and of immense importance amongst the Malayali population. It is a popular ornamental plant and is also used in herbal medicine.
In Ayurvedic medicine, the golden shower tree is known as aragvadha, meaning "disease killer". The fruit pulp is considered a purgative,[6][7] and self-medication or any use without medical supervision is strongly advised against in Ayurvedic texts. Though it has been used in herbalism for millennia, little research has been conducted in modern times.
This is also the State Flower of Kerala
