The small Outkaikino River (pronounced O-too-ky-keeno) mergers from the left into the larger Waimakariri River (locally called the Waimak or sometimes just the Mac), about 200m upstream of the State Highway One bridges that cross the Waimak. The Waimakariri starts way up in the Southern Alps and is a popular fishing, jet boating and kayaking river. The Waimakariri River is the northern boundary of Christchurch City Council, the northern bank is controlled by the aptly named Waimakariri Council.

Lake Sugema . . . considered by many sportsmen as some of the best fishing in all of Iowa.

The 574-acre lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish, and saugeye. Extensive planning was done by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to establish underwater structure that helps fish survive and reproduce.
