Taken for the Macro Mondays theme of small and smaller. For those who love fishing!! HMM!

Macro Mondays

Theme: Hook

Size: Less than 3x3 inches

Initially, I was thinking about Velcro hooks but none of the images turn out to my liking.

So I raided my fishing tackle box. I found these colourful rubbery lures and used them as the subjects. Back lighting of natural light through glass window and a small LED torchlight at 9 o'clock. I rotated the picture to give the impression that the hooks are being casted.

Many thanks for your visit, comments and faves ...it is always appreciated.

HMM

Fishing hooks are small but very important for anglers.

I chatted with a fisherman for a while. He hadn't caught anything that day. He then tried it with fresh liver... obviously there are no piranhas in the river... otherwise the liver would have been gone quickly and probably the fishing rod too.😄

For Macro Monday's "Heart" theme. Happy Valentines Day and HMM!

From a distance I saw a juvenile Great Blue Heron trying to swallow an Eel like fish in a Storm Water pond. It tired to swallow it at least for three minutes. I couldn't tell what it was, so I took a few photos. Later when I looked at them on computer screen I was horrified to see the heron was trying to swallow what appears to be a fishing lure with fishing hook attached to it. The first photo on the left is what attracted me to the action first. The middle photo shows it trying to swallow the lure. The last photo to the right is taken two minutes after the first. In the inset I have enlarged part of its beak area to show the fishing hook. The bird appeared to recognize the metal hook and tried to re-align the lure several times. I got distracted by a group of Egrets flying in. A minute later when I looked up I saw the heron standing upright - I hope that at the end it discarded the lure and did not swallow it with hook attached. We humans often leaving our footprint, detrimental to nature, everywhere.

Occasionally I enlist the help of one of the guys who does landscaping around here to help me remove fishing hooks from the trees at the pond. The ones I can't reach because they are too high in the trees. They have the tools to cut a small branch off, and sometimes have to climb the trees to get to it. Guess I'll be looking for help today. Saw these yesterday.

Sadly our drought is worsening. One lake empty, one at 1 percent full, and the other slowly diminishing.

December 25, 2008

Over the past 17 days I've found that ideas are not floating in the air like I would have hoped. However, today that was excatly what happened as the first idea that came to me was a hook in the mouth. I wish every day could be this easy. It started with a Facebook comment and before I knew it Lia was in and so was Shawn... read more

Creative perspective of a fishing hook with Tiran island and sunset colors as background.

To catch a fish, you have to place many hooks in the water.

You might get one or two with hundreds of hooks..

But if you don't place the hooks, you'll not get any.

Same thing applies to winning.

If you take part hundred times, you will win one or two times.

But if that stops you from taking part, you'll not win any.

Right moment at the Galata Bridge. The fisherman is about to grab his catch among his rivals in İstanbul.

The chandelier in the open-air lobby is original and absolutely incredible. It appears to be an interpretation of fishing hooks with glowing orbs below. I'd love to know more about it as no one at the hotel seemed to have any information.

Something quite different from my normal photos, a few nights back decided to try photographing fish hooks. I like the contrast between the new and rusty hook.

Just wanted to remind everyone who enjoys fishing that fishing lines with hooks attached can be deadly for birds. Do take care to avoid situations that put the beautiful wading birds in harms way.

Cormorants and Anhinga dive and with long bills/beaks - they dig into things that are on the bottom of lakes. Ducks, hersons, egrets, and crane - are endangered by our carelessness. Just wanted to put a colorful reminder of what our carelessness can cause. Actually, a hook in the beak or line wrapped around the beak causes starvation. Sad but true.

I guess this is one of Beijingers favorite past time, fishing. The water looks polluted to me, i doubt there is any fish inside.

A grackle tries to get a rubber worm off a fishing hook at Willow Lake in Prescott, Arizona, U.S.A. I chased the bird away and threw away the hook after I took a photo. It's not the first time I've seen a bird playing with or injured by fishermen's careless littering. (Nov. 30, 2024)
