Weather clearing with stiff wind in the higher country. From the height of summer. Thanks for looking and may your day be good.
Merger of a fork on Fishhook Creek as weather moves in with stiff wind. Not the best for a slow shutter. Thanks for looking and have a great new week.
There are three species, the Bohemian, cedar, and Japanese waxwings. The Bohemian waxwing is a is short-tailed, mainly brownish-grey, and has a conspicuous crest on its head. The wings are very distinctive; the flight feathers are black and the primaries have markings that produce a yellow stripe and white "fishhooks" on the closed wing.
Waxwings are primarily fruit eaters, but also consume insects during the breeding season. Mosquitoes and midges are the most common prey, but many other insects and some spiders are eaten.

Nice skies over the Talkeetna mountains as seen from Alaska's Hatcher Pass.
Was surprised to find hundreds of folks wandering thru these mountains, bent over picking something. Was prime blueberry season and they were loading up. I was loading up on the stunning scenery.

Hello June!
Independence Mine State Historic Park is the site of a former gold mining operation at the top of Hatcher Pass in Alaska's Talkeetna Mountains. Here, assumedly, every cloud has a gold lining :)

Now is the time to check out any wild or cultivated grape vines if you want to find one of these big orange grapevine beetles. They eat a few grape leaves and might sample a ripe grape or two but won't do any real damage to the vines or crop. Be aware that if you grab one of these guys in your hand, those claws are as sharp as a fishhook - ouch!

Come to me, Mr. Fish...Don't I look tasty? Wouldn't you like to eat me? Mmmm...yes...
Done for Macro Mondays "Hobby" theme (for fishing), I photographed a fishing lure and added texture and a few bubbles in an effort to simulate a view of the lure as a fish might see it in the water. :-)

Papa Vaka is the largest petroglyph on the entire island and without a doubt an archaeological wonder that I visited. Its name refers to the canoes (Vaka means canoe in the Rapa Nui language) and this is the main figure that I found in this stone.
When I got closer and looked at it carefully, I was able to distinguish a large number of canoes throughout the rock and also turtles, hooks and a series of holes that no one has been able to decipher. The main and perhaps most striking element is a double canoe that was important in the culture of the islanders.
PS. The term papa means “stone” in Rapanui language and vaka “canoe”, so the name of the place refers to the largest petroglyph that has been found throughout Easter Island
The hook has played a leading role in the Polynesian creation myths. One of them describes how the god Maui used a hook and fishing line to fish the islands from the bottom of the sea and bring them to the surface. These myths and the very fundamental use of the hook came explain why the Polynesian value it so much. The mangai is a popular theme in Rapa Nui jewelery. It is used as an amulet for prosperity, abundance, protection and good luck, especially for those who go to sea.
I bought these earrings when i visited Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in February, 2019.
Captured for Macro Mondays theme: Hook.

Pincushion cacti from the genus Mammillaria that include numerous species of globular-shaped succulents full of sharp-pointed needles sticking out in every direction resembling a curled hedgehog. There were numerous Mammillaria species on display in the Cactualdea park, but not everything was tagged with full name which is a real pity if one curious but not an expert. Still many very attractive, colourful and some start flowering, some with good access if you wish take pictures. Cactualdea, the Cactus Park, near Tocodomán, San Nicolás de Tolentino, Gran Canaria. The Canary Islands, Spain.
