Winter afternoon at Fisherrow, the harbour at Musselburgh, on the Firth of Forth. low sun at this time of year creating a nice mix of deep shadows and bright spots managing to catch the sun
There has been fishing at Fisherrow and Musselburgh since Roman times, and the present 17th-century harbour is very close to the Roman harbour at the mouth of the River Esk that served the Inveresk Roman Fort on the high ground east of the Esk upriver. The Fisherrow fishermen used to fish for herring, and later for white fish, prawns and sprats. The harbour was home to a large fishing fleet.
Fishing villages were close-knit communities, and there was a Fishwives' Choir, and golf tournaments took place between the fishwives of Musselburgh and Fisherrow. Fishermen and fishwives held a "Box Walk" each September which marked the end of the fishing season, and an opportunity to give presents of money to those in need.
Originally taken in October 2016, when I accidentally took the wrong bus and found a pretty tiny harbour called Fisherrow
Finally:the low angle of the winter sun gave me the tall, slim look I've always wanted!! Well, my shadow got it, at least, I suppose it let me dream for a moment!
A forest of masts; just as the trees are bare of leaves at this time of year, the masts are bare of sails, as the yachts are taken out onto shore for the winter hibernation.

People enjoying the warm sunlight around the harbour at Fisherrow, Musselburgh - I like the way you can see tops of sails from yachts passing by on the Forth right behind the harbour wall.

Patiently awaiting the incoming tide, slowly, relentlessly refloating the yachts in Fisherrow harbour at Musselburgh
Lone cyclist viewing the sunset from the quayside at Fisherrow harbour on the Firth of Forth, Scotland.
Walking along the beach at Musselburgh, spotted these two wee boys dangling from the harbour wall and clambering along it. Kids really are pretty much monkeys! I think their parents would have given them hell if they spotted them though, they were pretty high up (over twice their own height), enough to hurt if they slipped, but that's not what's in your mind as a kid.
Some more people watching snaps around the walls of the harbour at Fisherrow, Musselburgh, on the edge of Edinburgh (just a short stroll along from the Portobello area of the city), on the Firth of Forth. A very hot, sunny afternoon, after an overcast, cloudly morning, people making the most of the benches around the edge of the harbour to sit back and relax in the light.
