Subalpine fir (native to high altitudes)
With floods on the way, I dived back to my first digital camera and a hike in Alaska. I shot a number of these. About as shot.
We don't have to evacuate, but some roads are closing. The emergency text system worked well last night. Stay safe, everyone, from omicron, floodwaters, and other dangers.
The Drizzle finally goes DSLR.
After shooting with a P&S for close to a year, I decided to upgrade to a DSLR (the Powershot's limitations were starting to show themselves rapidly). So, after doing several months of research and changing my mind about 100 times, I went with the Nikon D5000. The kit I got came with a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lens, as well as an extra battery (thank you flat consumer electronic sales). So now, I just need to read a large manual, watch some videos on Youtube, and figure out how to work this damn thing.
P.S. I'm so happy that I may spoon the camera tonight :)
The Omellette has Cilantro, Jalapeno, Onions, Salsa etc (no meat) inside and cheese, Sour Cream on top.
Comes with a choice of potatoes and biscuit or toast.

[EXPLORED]
Decided to move on...!
Bought my first DSLR last weekend, Canon EOS 500D/Rebel T1i/Kiss X3, after a lot of brainstorming for months! Used it for diwali and had a lot of fun...lot of learning, lot of experimentation....will post some pics soon.
My sister plans to seize my old camera,Canon Powershot S5 IS. i had a wonderful year with it! Its an amazing first camera for photography enthusiasts...no longer in manufacture, there is the SX series instead. Its going to be very difficult giving it off, been my baby for over a year :(

I will soon be the proud new owner of a brand new Xsi Canon Rebel. I spent a lot of time last night this and the Nikon d500 last night, on every website I could find and then on youtube. What it basically came down to was this:
1) Canons seem to be compatible with more third party lenses; so cheaper stuff while I am learning
2) Roughly equal photo quality, assuming "Auto" settings
3) Familarity with Canons and how they work (my PNS is Canon, youtube videos showed that I would have at least some familiarty with how to work some of the basic settings right off the bat)
4) Boss is a Canon geek, so, insta-help
5) Won the spiffy lens Ana suggested pretty DARNED cheap on ebay (I like to believe fate nudges me in the right direction sometimes, despite contrary evidence).
That having been said, that Nikon was a pretty darned close second, that flip out screen . . I could think of a million ways in which that would have been incredibly handy and THEN some.
My initial setup will be thus (And this came in at a mere $10 over my budget): Used , mint Sigma Lens 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC
Canon XSI kit with the default kit lens
Cheapo small camera bag
Tiffen filters for each of the 2 lenses (I understand these aren't fantastic, but they'll do fine until I learn a bit and am ready for better ones--the two together were about $15, so I consider them expendable enough for learning purposes)
I probably still need a separate SD card; it seems like a bad idea to use the same one for both of my cameras (my pns uses the same type of card); I routinely forget to take it out of its computer slot anyhow. I am a firm believer in spare memory cards.
I MEANT to check 2 day shipping for an extra $6, but I had to go back and correct something in the order and forgot to check 2-day shipping again. ARGH! So I'll have to wait until probably next week.
If I've forgotten anything else vital to a basic intial DSLR setup, please let me know. All you flickr peeps have given me really good advice so far (whether I took it or not LOL), but I am sort of flying by book and gut here.
