Lothian Buses Evora 80 (SJ70 HNR) ‘Ravelrig Hill’ is seen here on Niddrie Mains Road in Craigmillar operating a service 2 to The Jewel ASDA in Craigmillar on its first day in service. Taken on Saturday the 23rd of January 2021.
Evora 80 (SJ70 HNR) ‘Ravelrig Hill’ was new to Lothian in late 2020 or early 2021 as 80, designated for service 30 along wi the rest o 66-95. It entered service on the 2 on the 23rd of January 2021, today.
80 ‘Ravelrig Hill’ was the only Evora to enter service today.
Today there were Evoras on all the Longstone single deck services (2, 30, 36 and 38). The 38 had an Evora for the first time today, in the shape of 73 (SJ70 HNH) ‘Haggis Knowe’.
the nickname ‘Ravelrig Hill’ comes from me naming Evoras 70-80 after hills in the Lothians, this one is named after Ravelrig Hill in Balerno. It also starts wi an R, the same letter as the end of the registration.
Due to covid I of course can’t travel on any buses as I don’t currently need to go anywhere that would require a bus journey, so I haven’t been on an Evora yet. When the pandemic is over, whenever that might be, I’m definitely looking forward to travelling on one of these, they do seem very smooth and quiet from the outside and from what I’ve heard of them.
I feel I should point out that my nicknames for the buses are not in any way official, neither are the numbers I have assigned to the days.
The only Evoras yet to enter service are 68, 72, 76, 90 and 95. Meaning that 25 out of 30 Evoras are already in active service, just 10 days after the first service day for the type.
Service 2 runs between the bus terminus in the Gyle Centre in South Gyle in Corstorphine and ASDA car par in The Jewel in Craigmillar via Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh Park Station, Hermiston Gait, Bankhead, Sighthill Park, Broomhouse, Saughton, Stenhosue, Whitson, Balgreen, Westfield, Gorgie, Tynecastle, Murieston, Dalry, Haymarket, Morrison Street, Tollcross, Main Point, West Port, Grassmarket, Cowgatehead, Greyfriars, Bristo Square, Potterrow, Southside, Newington, Prestonfield Clearburn, Peffermill, Craigmillar, Niddrie, Niddrie Mill and The Jewel. It is operated out of Longstone depot and is mainly single-deck but often operates wi doubles.
I hope everyone’s staying safe during lockdown and coping well.

Looking pretty much like the last upload. The bus is the same type, the livery is the same, the location is the same, the fleetnames are............Ahhhh : Stagecoach officially took control of First's Wigan depot at 05:00 on Sunday 2nd December 2012 though it was pretty much business as usual for the fleet. Although a number of vehicles have been moved into the Lockett Road depot in corporate 'Beach Ball' livery today has seen the existing aquired fleet go about their duties with just new names and fleetnumbers stuck over the old ones on a white vinyl sticker.
Yesterdays 60390 is today masquerading as 21174 and now may just get a bit of TLC in its advancing years..........or may just get dispatched on the next wrecker to Barnsley!

Lothian Buses MCV D113RLF EV bodied Volvo BZL DD Electric number 748 (SF25 YJS) ‘Sheriffhallbuzz’ is seen here on Liberton Road (A701) in Nether Liberton, Gilmerton/Inch, operating a service 8 to the Royal Infirmary on its first day in service. At the time of this photo it was on its fourth journey in service and had only just seen its first ever sunrise while in regular service.
Taken on Wednesday the 5th of March 2025.
So the remaining BZLs of the 701-750 batch are finally coming into service, albeit fairly slowly. The newest ones, like for example 748 ‘Sheriffhallbuzz’ here, look nice and shiny, and 6 months in, that livery is still so eye-catching. Catching a bus in the morning of its first day in service is a unique experience, it hopefully has many many years ahead of it, hundreds of thousands of kilometres ahead of it, and will be a part of the everyday lives of countless people over the years, but I got to capture it merely 3 hours and 7 minutes since it set off from Central to go into service for the first time ever.
Lothian Buses MCV D113RLF EV bodied Volvo BZL DD Electric number 748 (SF25 YJS) ‘Sheriffhallbuzz’ was new to Lothian in March 2025 as 748e for Central Depot. It is part of the third lot of BZLs to enter service together. It is usually found on services 8, 9, 10, 14 and 24 along with the other BZLs. It carried the plate (SD74 KRG) until being reregistered shortly before entering service.
The unofficial name 'Sheriffhallbuzz’ comes from Sheriffhall which is near the Royal and the buzz from it being electric. It also lines up with the S and the end of its reg plate.
Service 8 runs between the Royal Infirmary in the Gilmerton/Inch and Waterfront Gait in West Pilton/West Granton. It serves Craigour, Moredun, Liberton, Southside, Bridges, Broughton, Canonmills, Inverleith and Granton. It was red over yellow before conversion to bus operation. Service 8 is usually operated by BYDs and BZLs.
