This year’s Bitts Park Fireshow was held on Saturday 4 November and was celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Themed on the last three decades, the centre piece of the 30 foot bonfire was a giant box of fireworks with a colourful array of giant rockets.
The firework display followed the bonfire and included 2,000 spectacular sparkles and a giant Catherine Wheel.
It was the 30th Fireshow event staged by Carlisle City Council.
More than 35,000 people attend the event, organised in conjunction with Merlin Fireworks Ltd.
Fireshow Facts
Carlisle Fireshow began in 1987 as a community event designed to bring local families together for a fun night out in a safe environment. Around 200 people were expected to attend the first event however it attracted a 2,000 strong crowd.
The 1987 Fireshow was held on October 31st.
In 1990 there were four bonfires. A giant bonfire now forms the centrepiece of each event.
Up until 1994, the fireworks for the Fireshow were released from inside the grounds of Carlisle Castle keep and battlements.
The Carlisle Fireshow has developed in to one of the biggest events of its kind in the UK, attracting a 35,000 strong crowd each year and is listed in The Times Top 10 bonfire list.

The theme for this year’s Carlisle Fireshow is 'Spellbound Sensations'.
The performance entitled 'Merlin's Dragon' will explore the popular themes of dragons, wizards and magic – all linking in with the date of this year’s event - Saturday 31 October.
It will be the 28th Fireshow event staged by Carlisle City Council.
Pre-entertainment will start at 6.30pm including a Fireshow performance at 6.45pm and the Bitts Park bonfire lit at 7pm. A fairground will be open from 5.30pm on Devonshire Walk car park.
A performance will be held on the Bitts Park stage as part of the build up to the bonfire being lit. This will include Merlin the Wizard, music, storytelling, a choir of children singing a magic song and a candle lit lantern procession.
The 30-foot high bonfire will be centre stage and include a huge animated dragon. The firework display will follow the bonfire at around 7.20pm and will include 2,000 spectacular sparkles.

The theme of this year's bonfire was the 1900th anniversary of Hadrian's Wall. A crowd of around 40,000 came out to see the show organised by Carlisle City Council. It was the 33rd Fireshow event
This year’s Bitts Park Fireshow will celebrate Carlisle’s industrial past. Themed on Steam, Smoke and Sparks, the centre piece of the bonfire will be a 35-foot tall animated 1850s Steam Locomotive Engine, with moving wheels. The firework display will follow the bonfire and will include 2,000 spectacular sparkles. A Fireshow Funday will take place in Carlisle city centre from 14:00 to 17:30, and a fairground will be open from 17:30 on Devonshire Walk car park.
It will be the 29th Fireshow event staged by Carlisle City Council.
More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the City Council event, organised in conjunction with Merlin Fireworks Ltd.

I took quite a few photos that evening on the beach on Koh Lanta. We were sitting just a few meters away from these wheels of fire and we could feel the heat. This fire show was really something. Needless to say, the kids liked the show too.
