Volunteers from the American Red Cross teamed up with the Perth Amboy Fire Department and HOPE worldwide and went door-to-door in fire-affected neighborhoods of Perth Amboy on Saturday, October 11 to offer smoke alarm installation in homes that need them and teach people about what they can do now to be prepared should a fire break out in their home.

The North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center houses the largest collection of professionally restored American LaFrance fire apparatus in the country. The museum opened to the public in 2007 and currently houses 18 fire trucks and priceless, one of a kind firefighting artifacts. Complete with interactive exhibits featuring real smoke, hands on displays, a 40 person theater, children’s play area and fire truck simulator the North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum proves to be a remarkable experience and an unforgettable destination for everyone.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Shirley Bond talks to Captain Gabe Roder and Chief and General Manager John McKearney of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services about the importance of testing fire alarm batteries. Minister Bond announced a campaign to ensure a fire alarm is in every B.C. home.

Today, the local fire company visited our pre-school classes. Kids boarded the fire truck; we talked about a variety of topics, ranging from smoke detectors to resisting the urge to hide from fire fighters when they enter the house.

 

The department is entirely volunteer; this guy is a realtor, we were told.

 

Because of the "field" application of the group, "classroom displays," I'm going to assume this photo applies. I've also posted five more, on my photostream.
