The Ross of Mull is the south-western peninsula of the Isle of Mull, the third largest island of the Hebrides of Scotland. It is an area of outstanding beauty, approximately 20 miles long,
an area of fascinating geology and a haven for nature.
I love the long sweeping branches of these fir trees which then split into fine filaments. Now sporting their spring cones. Taken in Hillock Wood, Buckinghamshire.
Fronds of a fir tree near the top end of the Mediterranean Garden, seen against the blue-green glass of the Amazon Waterlily Pavilion in the background, in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

There is always something magical about frost covering woodland fauna (oh and cold!) Taken in Monkton Wood, Buckinghamshire.

Another view from my favourite area in Hillock Wood, these two firs seem to be in a very playful mood on a wonderful misty morning!
Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina, NC
A lone fir tree stands on the cliff edge surrounded by blooming laurel bushes with a patch of fog lit by the morning sun.
A lone fir stands proud among a forest of pines, or is that the other way round? I know they are all conifers but never sure which is which! Anyway, another misty morning in Hillock Wood, Buckinghamshire and a title that sprang to mind as soon as I had framed the shot!
The Fir Among The Maples......
in Caledon the fall colours have begun their spectacular display of brilliantly coloured leaves and are in full colour change.
An expanding beautiful white and blue sky was the backdrop to this colourful scene.

A fir gives an adjoining conifer a big of a hug! The ferns are starting to die down a bit now and are loosing the reddish sheen that was there at the start of the year. Looking forward to when they are lush green! Taken Hillock Woods, Buckinghamshire.
As seen from the viewpoint right next to parking lot. Taken after first light.
With a sheer plunge of 89 feet, Tumalo Falls is both the tallest and most impressive waterfall along Tumalo Creek - as well as one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the vicinity of Bend. The area around the falls was burnt in a 1979 forest fire, though like the landscape surrounding Mount St. Helens after it's devastating 1980 eruption, the forest is quickly healing. A few snags still line the hillsides along the valley but the area is green again, covered with small fir trees and not at all detracting from the splendor of the falls. A nice set of viewpoints both at the top and near the base of the falls make viewing the falls possible for nearly everyone.
"Rich Border, roving reporter for Ghost Writers Magazine, here with the spirit of Douglas Fir. Doug, can you tell our audience about your fateful day?"
"Well I'll tell ya Rich, it was a Sunday morning as you know, I was standing here on this ridgeline with thousands of my friends swaying gently in the breeze soaking up some water and taking in the rays I was three hundred years old at the time so I was just getting my day started when all of a sudden the Earth began to shake. That's when the mountain that I'd spent my whole life admiring, you know they called it the Fuji of the North West because she had the most perfectly shaped dome, that's when the front of the mountain exploded and collapsed, I don't remember anything after that."
"Well thank you for that rousing interview Mr. Fir, back to you Walter."
"And that's the way it was."
Loch Cill Chriosd, Skye, Scotland.
Spent a day on Skye after my Harris visit and was rewarded with some lovey weather and beautiful scenery.
