This is the video I made the night I met the IMAX guy. (For that story, look back to my post on 6/10.) I was camped just over the ridge and didn't hesitate to leave all of my equipment out for the night. Music is "Winds - ready for the adventure", by Stefano Mocini. CC rights.
I could point out a couple of strange things about the video but will wait to see if anybody notices.
I'm starting to accumulate stock footage for a time lapse project that might take me months or years to complete. Here's some daylight sequence from Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. I just put in a little audio to keep it from being totally boring. It's Creative Commons licensed "Acoustic Breeze" by bensound.
Uncut footage from the drone, taken around 9 am on Sep. 20, 2015. Some adjustments to exposure and saturation were made in Final Cut Pro X. Best viewed in 1080 HD.

Here's the time lapse video of Red Mountain that I made last month. It was taken from the overlook a mile or two north of the actual pass. The camera was on a bluff directly over highway US 550. After darkness, you can see reflections on the trestle of headlights from vehicles passing on the highway. These flashes of light are either stimulating or annoying, I guess. I stopped the time lapse too soon. Sorry about that. And there's no sound on this one.
You can see the Yankee Girl Mine if you look along the bottom of the frame about 2/3 of the way to the left. Find the whitish mound and look at the building on top. This was the most productive mine in Colorado.
Slow motion video of the fountain paint pots in Yellowstone National Park. Shot at 480 fps and played back at 30. The Sony RX10-iii makes it easy to do this.

This time-lapse video is a compilation from my long weekend up in Washington last month. This was actually only my second time going out and doing time-lapse photography even though I've posted a couple of other videos already. It took me a while to compile it all due to the speed of my aging iMac at the time (I've since gotten a new one this week) and I was really struggling with some flicker in a couple of the sequences. You'll see that I wasn't able to eliminate all of of the flicker in every sequence but I think overall it turned out fairly well.
I was really hoping I could have done a time-lapse of the Milky Way during my time there however the weather was not cooperating at all and I was lucky enough to be able to see the Milky Way for all of 10 minutes in my 4 days there.

The rainy season is here! Albuquerque got about a third of its annual rainfall in one afternoon last week, a 130-year record for a single day. Every day the clouds build over the Jemez mountains and little, intense storms sweep along with the prevailing winds. I turned off the drip system over a month ago. It’s as green as it gets here. Lots of rabbits run around the yard.
I set up this sequence on midday, July 5, in the field across the street. It’s a time lapse of three hours at one frame every three seconds, rendered at 30 fps.
I like the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens so much that I bought the 12mm f/2.8. Unlike the 14, the 12 is a fisheye. Since I had the lens pointed upward a bit, the horizon was a bowl-shaped curve. This wasn’t so bad, but I found that I could flatten it using the Photoshop CC Adaptive Wide Angle filter. So I set up an action in Photoshop to apply this filter, then Warp-transform the image to correct the corners and edges, followed by a Nik Detail Enhancer filter, and finally a Flatten Image and Save to TIFF. Applying this action to 3,600 images took about 75 hours of run-time on my 6 CPU Mac Pro.
Next, I opened the TIFFs in Lightroom and applied some small Curves adjustments and exported to TIFF for the initial rendering to 4k video. This took most of another day.
For the final render to 1080p, I used Final Cut Pro X. The reduction from 4k to 1080p lets me make some zooms in the video without apparent loss of sharpness.
Finally, I added the sound. “A Lincolnshire Posey” by Percy Grainger is probably my favorite short piece for concert band. I performed it more than half a century ago in the Clemson College Concert Band. This is the second movement, “Horkstow Grange”, performed by the Hal Leonard Concert Band.
The whole thing is Creative Commons - Attribution licensed.

I took this time-lapse video a few weeks back and just now finally getting a chance to post it. This was still before I had my new slider from Dynamic Perception and eMotimo TB3 so there isn't any camera movement in this one. I hope to post something with that equipment in the next couple of weeks.
I had originally gone to this exact same spot one week earlier and did a time-lapse, however due to very few clouds in the sky it didn't turn out very well as there was a lot of flicker and nothing of much interest in the sky. I got pretty lucky with this one I think as there was a lot of cloud movement, a good sunset, and lots of activity on the ground.
I hope you all enjoy this one and please by all means let me know what you think of it in the comments below, good or bad! :-)

Here's a frame-by-frame video of the accumulation of images for the cloud stack that I posted on August 10, 2017.
Framegrab from quick grading test in FCPX using Filmconvert Pro, shot with my Lumix FZ2000 (pre-production model) with V-Log L activated, 10bit 4K ProRes HQ recorded to Atomos Shogun, look created with GH4 V-Log profile in Filmconvert, KD 5207Vis3, very subtle grain added (strength 24), overexposed roughly +2EV at base ISO400 in camera, WB 5600K, underexposed (-0.25) in Filmconvert, WB knocked down to 5400K, some minor tweaks on the three-wheel corrector. That's it! ;)
The thing with V-Log L on the GH4 and now also the new FZ2000... it's got such a variety of reviews, mostly bad, because people just don't seem to cope with how to work with properly shot Log footage from any camera. Then just don't review it, or speak out at all. I absolutely love grading V-Log L footage from the GH4 and FZ2000. It's fantastic to work with! You have to be disciplined, know you gear, have it in your heart I guess. But I even prefer shooting V-Log L over RAW these days (well, except for astrophotography of course) because thanks to Filmconvert Pro, it's so much easier to find that fantastic, analog look that I sometimes struggle to reach within Lightroom from RAW-files.
You just have to understand what Log is all about, how to properly over-expose your shot, the hardest thing is to decide what to blow and not to blow, when it comes to highlights. As soon you get the whole craft of it, it's in your spine. And I just love the look of Kodak Vision3 stocks. I can't get the thing out of my system.
This was my first quick grade on the FZ2000 V-Log L footage (from a slightly dodgy pre-production unit that is), and I have to say I was hugely surprised at how it handles the highlights, the extremely smooth roll-off and well controlled noise in the murky shadows. Panasonic sure is beating the crap out of that 1" sensor, paired with a full-blown Leica Dicomar camcorder lens with smooth iris control, smooth zoom control, switchable physical ND-filters and 10-bit 4K output on HDMI, that is a killer camera for a lot of settings and professional work. On top of all that, it's a great stills shooter that easily can replace your DSLR if you don't plan to replace that great lens of its own.
Take a look at the official FZ2000 promo that I shot for Panasonic/Lumix in Japan back in August, I didn't have V-Log L o that sample, but I shot all of the footage in a modified Cinelike-V profile and the preliminary grade was pretty much set in the hotel room, the night before I went back to Sweden. I had a great time in Hokkaido shooting this: youtu.be/C-kaamEC8Ms
More to come, so stay tuned! :)
Second Glow -- Sometimes you can see a second glow in the clouds at sunset. (Maybe at sunrise too; I wouldn't know.) This timelapse was shot at a frame every 2 sec and played back at 30 fps, so there is a speed up of a factor of 60. At the start of this short video you can see a couple of Chinook helicopters crossing from left to right.
I made a brief, looping time-lapse video that shows the rapid motion of Comet 46P/Wirtanen over a 20-minute period on 18 December. The video is made of five exposures of four-minutes each made between 2043 and 2100 EST at 39° 04' 40.61" N 76° 39' 33.46" W.
Anyone want to volunteer to calculate the comet's speed, knowing that the bright star to the right (SE) of the comet is HIP 20704?

apologies for not getting round your streams in the last few days - back online from this evening - some of you have noticed the new camera and lens - I bought the 650D for shooting video (sound recorded separately on a Zoom H4N and autosynced in FinalCutProX) - the 28mm I already had, bought secondhand earlier this year, glass after all is forever....

I decided I'd make a short timelapse based on the country of Singapore before I had even got there, it's such an amazing place with lots of clashing cultures and locations. Thanks to the 'Photographer-Friendly' feel of Singapore there are many different viewpoints, for example the HDB Flats (Public housing) allow you to get some pretty good views.
I have experimented with some day-night fades here which I have been meaning to try for a while, I think they have come out pretty well!
This timelapse was shot and edited over a period of just 3 weeks, during my 6 month tour of South East Asia!

Two prong test. First with the time lapse option on the Lumix LX7. Different variables from one shot per minute to one per seven minutes, naturally one shot per being the smoothest.
Mixed feelings on the LX7. Cool little camera but fickle on auto focus and macro, noisy too, even on RAW. Canon G15 at the same price a better choice.
Shot about 1200 stills and dumped them into Final Cut X.
First cut on Final Cut Pro X. If you liked old FCP you'll hate this. It's iMovie on steroids packed with preset transitions & filters. I tried to cram as many as I could in this cut.
Yeah, my Youtube Account now is forsaken from February, but fear not, this fall I will to show you some my ideas.

Still frame from 1080p24 movie captured with the GH2 in cinema mode, transcoded to ProRes422 and graded in Final Cut Pro X, rendered out as ProRes422 then grabbed this screenshot from QuickTime player 7. No sharpening applied, no editing in Photoshop. The RAW film quality from the GH2 in 1080p24 is simply remarkable. From what I've seen with my own tests, the image from the GH2 looks sharper and more cinematic than the $5.000 Panasonic AF100/101.

The overconsumption of energy is an ongoing issue in a world where we heavily depend upon our limited resources. Although the issue has been acknowledged, what we as society fail to understand is the speed in which our resources are being depleted. We are constantly harvesting and consuming energy, yet the energy or power is never returned. This imbalance is what I aim to highlight through this video. I am trying to, from a state of mind perspective; transmute these elements into something safe that is not harmful to the environment. I would like to position this difficult situation in a much better light where I am utilizing confetti as the symbolism for energy and power.
Yesterday I was at the opening of the newest Apple Store in Rome, the Euroma2's Apple Store.
It was amazing! Yeah, was my first time of an inauguration of an Apple Store and I liked so much the countdown and the acceptance energy of the staff and also the spectacular t-shirt signed Euroma2.
So, I decided to upload this video of the event.
See you soon with more photos from my last trips.

Anyone who captures videos will tell you that audio can make or break the viewers interest. We’ve all watched videos where wind noise drowned out everything else we wanted to hear on the video. I recently completed a 30 day early morning walk challenge (youtu.be/r--qgLO_B8E ) where I captured short clips with a GoPro Hero 8 Black. The GoPro’s wind shielding is pretty good but there are better ways to improve audio.
So I set out to find some low cost alternatives and one popular option was a Purple Panda Lavalier Microphone Kit. Besides the microphone, the included foam and
dead cat” wind screens, an extension cable, some adapters, and a handy/dandy storage bag. I really liked how it takes next to nothing space making it a snap to carry.
This video covers use of the external microphone to capture an off camera audio track and ultimately merge it with a video file in Final Cut Pro X. The end result will be a video with improved audio.
Please note that this video doesn’t cover a keystroke by keystroke how-to. You will have to search the internet for those details AND spend a little time experimenting. My intention here was to simply make you aware of the capability.
For the record, my commentary was recorded on the iPhone with the Purple Panda cavalier microphone.
Thanks for watching.
